Thanks to Jack Preston for taking one of our veterans to the celebration at the elementary school as well as to Phil Murphy for taking Elsie Pelzman to honor her brother. The 10th was a day of remembrance for many, myself included.
Susan was filling me in on some bingo happenings while we were in the dining room one morning. I was sitting with Muriel Redolphy, one of the big winners, who won a number of games. I was surprised at the number and asked Muriel if she had cheated to which she simply replied, “Yes.” We got a chuckle out of that, though I’m sure she didn’t really cheat. It might have been hard to sneak out the little bingo balls she was specifically looking for.
I know I’ve said this before, but it pays to be flexible when you’re scheduling activities, or even planning a craft, like the leaf hedgehog craft I had on the calendar, one which was to be made with fall leaves, and I had a bucket load of leaves to use. The problem was, when you delay in collecting items for your craft, you sometimes have your leaves snowed over and then you have to go to plan B. In this case, plan B required borrowing from the craft one week ahead, and so on, and so on. All the crafters, including Eleanor Peters, Lynn Jennings, Lucille Bertsch and a couple of others made fingerprint turkey cards. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t get one. There were only five to give to loved ones to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving. But, there is an upcoming craft you might want to take a small part in on Thanksgiving Day. Our crafters will be putting together items for a gratitude tree. If you happen to join us for Thanksgiving Day luncheon, you can add your own words of gratitude to our trees.
I’ll tell you something I think a few of our residents might add to our tree to show appreciation, and that’s for our pastoral visits. Pastor Betty Lou came by in the middle of our bowling game to look in on our folks. And we had quite the crowd to impress. Among those throwing spares were Paula Dedebant, Florence Anderson and John Graham. Pastor Betty Lou may not only come providing comfort, she may also have brought some luck to some of our bowlers.
Because our folks love visits from Rick Kerr and Shadow, the super Pet Therapy Dog, we feel it’s necessary to give him (Shadow, not Rick) treats for his visits. Our cooking club made some homemade treats in the shape of dog bones, but I believe he would eat them no matter what the shape.
Our week ended with music by Jane Hartman playing a set of patriotic tunes in honor of Veteran’s Day and a showing of a Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine film, “The Apartment.” Come on by our pad.
We’ll see youhere.
