Dear Parents,

On June 22, our group of fourth grade students will be visiting Old Fort Niagara for our school field trip. This historic site has been an important part of New York’s development since its founding as a French Fort 300 years ago. We are sure that your child will have an enjoyable, educational experience touring the buildings and grounds while reviewing important historical events studied this year.

To make this field trip a safe and pleasurable experience, please provide the following:

  1. A nutritious lunch– labeled with your child’s full name and teacher’s name. Please include a disposable drink (no glass bottles or thermoses) and a napkin! Please refrain from sending in any type of beverage that is carbonated. We have had pop explode in the past and it has ruined other children’s lunches. Feel free to include a water bottle as well.
  2. A sweater or jacket – The entire trip is spent outside and the fort is located on Lake Ontario therefore be prepared for chilly weather. Please watch the weather the night before or even that morning and send your child dressed appropriately. Remember, it tends to be a full 10-20 degrees cooler there.
  3. Sneakers or walking shoes – NO SANDALS/OPEN TOE SHOES please.
  4. Sunscreen_- Please apply it to your child before he/she comes to school. Since we are going in late June, the sun is stronger and sunburns can occur even on a cloudy day. Your child may bring some along, but will be responsible for applying again later.

Cameras may be brought on the trip, but they are the responsibility of the child. A good choice may be to purchase a disposable camera for this trip.

Finally, all parents are welcome to attend. We simply ask that you drive yourself and pay your own admission. If you are planning on joining us, please meet with the other parents in the main parking lot. It is very chaotic in the room just before we leave and this will help alleviate some of it. Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Flett, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. McNamara, and Mr. Recktenwald
