Multiplication WarUse a deck of cards or make a deck of cards numbered 1-10. Two players put down a card at the same time. The first one to correctly multiply the cards together gets to keep the cards. The winner is the person with the most cards.
If using face cards:
A=1, J=11, Q=12, K=13)
(can leave face cards out if too frustrating for child) / Flash Cards
Use your own multiplication
flash cards, playing cards or go to print a set cards. Practice the flash cards together.
/ Timed fun Facts
With a partner. Have your partner time you for one minute. Pick a times fact like 5’s or 6’s or 7’s. See how many multiplication problems and products you can correctly write in one minute. Your partner will check your work. Then switch and you will check your partner’s work.
Computer Time
Go to ABCya.com and play some math games that are appropriate for your level. / Spinner Addition
Use a spinner from a board game or make your own with a paper fastener and a paper clip. Spin the spinner 5 times and add the numbers together. Play against someone. Play
10 rounds. / Close to 100
Use a deck of cards. Pull out 5 cards. Each player uses 4 of the cards to make 2- two digit numbers that when added get them as close to 100 as possible. Whoever is closest wins that round. Play several rounds.
Play Pig
Players take turns rolling two dice ten times, mentally keeping a total of the sums that come up. When the player stops rolling, he/she records the total, and adds it to the scores from previous rounds. BUT if a one is rolled, the player scores a 0 for that round, and it's the next player's turn. / Speedy Sums
With a deck of cards pass out 5 cards, face down to all players. Say “GO”! The first person to add up all of their cards first and shout out the sum wins the round. (Check each other’s calculations!)
/ Race to 100
Using a deck of cards. Each player will take a card from the deck and write it down. On the player’s next turn he/she will take another card and add the card to their total. Continue until the first player reaches 100. That player is the winner. (A=1, J=11, Q=12, K=13).
