RESPONSIBLE FOR: PR Manager

Social Media Manager (TBC)

JOB PURPOSE

This post is responsible for developing a wide-ranging strategic plan for marketing St Joseph’s Hospice, the services it provides to patients and their families and promoting the income generating activities. The role has three broad streams of work; marketing, PR and communications. These activities need to be undertaken using all possible channels available to the hospice, including digital, particularly as we serve a geographical area which is characterised by a diverse and fragmented population.

Responsible for marketing and communications for St Joseph’s, this role spans four main priorities; developing a wide-ranging strategic marketing plan to reach referrers to increase awareness of the hospice’s services; to reach the East London communities to increase awareness of services and the organisation’s need for support (both of time and money); to help demystify the meaning of ‘death’, ‘dying’ and ‘hospice care’; to promote the fundraising activities of the hospice to develop a more stable support base.

The role is responsible for managing all the external communications. This includes developing and managing key messages, creating a coherent, consistent brand and identifying the different segments of audience and communication channels available to St Joseph’s. This not only includes East London, but London as a whole, the national hospice movement and there are profile-raising opportunities available on a regional and national scale too.

The role is also partly responsible for internal communications, in conjunction with the HR Department. The Head of Marketing and Communications will need to work closely with the HR Director and her team in developing effective communication channels, with agreed key messages and timing across the organisation to engage with staff, volunteers and visitors (patients, families and others).

The Head of Marketing and Communications will also be responsible for the digital marketing and communications for St Joseph’s too. This includes being responsible for the website portfolio for the hospice, St Joseph’s social media presence and any other digital communication channels.

The role is a senior one within the organisation, and will need to act across the organisation, developing strong communications with clinical colleagues, senior managers and other colleagues in the Fundraising Department. The postholder will be a member of the St Joseph’s Heads of Department team which contributes to the strategic management of the organisation. In addition, it is also part of the Fundraising Management Team and will support the Director of Fundraising and Engagement to develop a high achieving, intelligent and strategic Fundraising Department.
