Instructors:
Loren Seagrave is a USATF Master Coach. He is the Co-Founder of Speed Dynamics and Velocity Sport Performance. He has been a USATF Coaching Education instructor since 1983. He has coached dozens of World Championship and Olympic Medalists and is the IAAF Curriculum Coordinator for Certification in the Sprints. Loren is currently the Director of Speed & Movement and Track & Field and Cross Country at IMG Academy.
Larry Judge, Ph.D., C.S.C.S. is an assistant professor of physical education and coordinator of the graduate coaching program at Ball State University. He has 18 years of Division I coaching experience with Indiana State University, the University of South Carolina, the University of Wyoming and the University of Florida. He is currently the USA Track & Field national chairman for coaching education in the throwing events. He is also a Level III instructor in the International Association of Athletics Federation's (IAAF) coaching education program. He has coached more than 100 NCAA Division I All Americans, including eight Olympians.
Rick Rothman is an assistant coach with the Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country and track teams. He has coached for a total of 38 years with his teams winning 151 major championships, including Seven State Championships, and finishing runner-up in 45 other major championships. His record includes seven state titles in girls cross country; two runner-ups in girls and boys cross country; 12 regional titles, and 25 district titles. Rothman has been selected Coach of the Year 117 times, including State Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1999, 2002, and 2003 along with the Florida Track and Field Hall of Fame State Girls Cross Country Coach of the year in 2009. He was a finalist for the NHSACA National Coach of the Year in 2006 and again in 2012, being named National Coach of the Year for girls cross country.
Shawn Venable is in his third year at Oral Roberts University where he is in charge of the field events and assists head coach Joe Dial with the sprinting events. Last season Venable coached Morrie Turner to 2nd team All-American honors in the long jump with his leap of 25’0 and Tim Jones to a national qualifying mark in the triple jump (49’11). Prior to his arrival at ORU, Venable served five years as the head coach at Bacone College. During Venable's tenure, the program produced 17 NAIA All-Americans, three NAIA Academic All-Americans, 65 NAIA national qualifiers, 15 RRAC Individual Champions, 103 RRAC All-Conference and 47 RRAC Academic All-Conference honors. Venable has his USATF Level 3 and IAAF Level 5 Coaching Education certifications (the highest attainable) in the jumping events and is completing the requirements for the same certifications in the sprints, hurdles relays events. Additionally, Venable has a USATF Level 2 certification in the throwing and combined events.
Level 1 Information:
The USATF Coaching Education Level 1 program is intended as a starting point for coaches. One of the objectives of the Level 1 program is to put all coaches on common ground (i.e., speaking the same language). The Level 1 program covers all events in a rudimentary manner by emphasizing fundamentals, rules, safety/risk management, and instruction techniques. Level 1 certification prepares an individual to coach at the junior high school, high school, club, and junior age division level.
Requirements
· Be at least 18 years of age
· Attend a Level 1 coaching education school
· Pass an exam

About Level 1 Schools:
Level 1 Schools are two-and-a-half-day courses where 21-24 hours are spent on track & field and related sport science. The course consists of classroom instruction as well as hands-on training. Attendance at all sessions is required.
After the school, participants must complete an online exam that covers event-related and sport science subjects.
Upon passing the exam and fulfilling the other requirements (see above), participants will be issued a Level 1 Certificate of Completion.
