First Round Superintendent Interviews

Wednesday, 16 January 2013

7:00 to 9:00 pm

APPOINTMENT SCHEDULE (one candidate)

Dr. Gamble will greet candidates at the Board office and escort them to the library door under the clock. Candidates will be escorted out the gym doors at the conclusion of their meeting.

OPENING WELCOME (Marelli)

High Level Overview (no more than 3 minutes for each candidate) on format of evening/nature of questions/optimal timeline. Marelli will defer to the appropriate board member/subject matter expert in the follow up segment and ask that all thank you correspondence be directed to Business Admin/Board Secretary Karin Laraway so it can be distributed through the board alias. New board members will participate fully in round two. Any time between candidates can be utilized for “gut instinct” feedback and an additional fifteen minutes is reserved at the end of the evening to assess the flow/format (in the event adjustments are needed for the 9th) and tabulate rankings to adjourn no later than 10 pm.

COMPETENCIES

Board members briefly introduce themselves and their committee affiliation/background only when they first address the candidate- thanks.

Leadership (Regan to lead)

We are nearing the conclusion of a 2 year stint with an interim Superintendent who has reinvigorated the staff, introduced a variety of innovations into the curriculum, and succeeded in galvanizing a school community desperately in need of strong, fair, open and inspiring leadership. You are seeking to assume this position without any Superintendent experience yet. Tell us about your leadership style and how you envision transitioning us from an interim to permanent leader and what qualities you feel best prepare you to engender the credibility, loyalty and trust we are looking for?

Resource Allocation (Larsen to lead)

The Superintendent is responsible for preparing the budget so allocation of scarce resources is an important part of the job. How will you determine whether existing programs and services need to be continued, eliminated or modified? Where you currently work, are there any "sacred cows" and how have you dealt with them?

Skillful Supervision and Evaluation(Presutti to lead)

The emerging changes in teacher evaluations have discussions about teacher quality and how it’s measured happening in earnest across the state. That same attention can and should be paid to all staff in a district. How will teachers and staff know what you expect of them; and as you recruit new personnel, how will you ensure you hire staff that adds excellence to our current team?

Curriculum and Instruction (Santoro to lead)

With NJ Common Core standards specifying what should be a common curriculum across districts, how would you distinguish Tewksbury? In particular, speak to improving teacher quality and integrating technology.

Emerging Issues (Delia tolead)

Tewksbury is entering its first year of participation in the Interdistrict School Choice Program. Please give us your thinking on its successful implementation.

CLOSING REMARKS (Marelli)

Is there anything else you would like to tell us to help us know you better? Is there anything in your past that could negatively impact our decision and that you feel you should disclose to us or explain at this juncture?

Time permitting, follow up questions will be fielded by Marelli and redirected to the appropriate Committee Chair/subject matter expert.

THANK YOU AND REITERATE TIMELINE
