PLEASE PLACE ON THE COMMON ROOM NOTICEBOARD

TEMPORARY TEACHERS' REGISTER

The Register is urgently looking for recently retired teachers in all subjects from HMC/GSA schools who would like to offer their services to cover for absence due to illness/maternity leave/sabbaticals or whatever, for up to one term (sometimes longer).

The Register exists to put Heads who urgently need temporary staff in touch with possible teachers. There are more requests for teachers than there are individuals on the Register. Therefore, if you are about to retire, or know colleagues who have already retired, and would like to consider earning some extra income over the short term, this is an excellent and, to you, cost-free service which will keep you in touch with possibilities as they occur in your subject. The need is for teachers who are still enthusiastic about teaching, not for those who simply want to earn extra money!

The following information is all that is needed to enter you on the Register:-

  1. Personal details: name, date of birth, degrees, recent teaching posts and extra-curricular interests, address and telephone/fax/e-mail numbers. Plus any comments or special considerations you would like to mention.
  1. Subjects you are willing to teach at A level and GCSE.
  1. Which individual terms you could consider for teaching for the next three years; all or only some?
  1. Whether you wish to restrict yourself to work near your home (give approximate radius in miles), or would consider accommodation provided anywhere in the country.
  1. Give name and address/telephone number of one referee (normally the Head of your last school).

There is an official form for the Register which your Head's secretary may have or, failing that, it is available from Sue Driver, HMC, 12 The Point, Rockingham Road, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, LE16 7QU to whom it should be returned, alternatively you can email Sue at

Please note that we cannot guarantee to place you. Much depends on subject requirements and whether you have restricted yourself to a specific geographical location or not. The Register is in the process of growing fast and becoming better known. We need you or your recent ex-colleagues to let us know if you would be interested in some extra teaching. Please act now – let your retired colleagues know about this opportunity – and help swell the numbers on the Register.
