Presentation Competition for Young Speakers

The Competition

The competition is open to everyone 37 and under at the time of the competition (i.e. those eligible to be members of the NI Young Generation Network). However, the competition is open to members and non-members of the NI also.

The winner then goes forward to take part in theNational YGN Speaking Competition and competes against other branch YGN Speaking Competition winners. A National Competitionwill be held in the autumn this year, with further cash prizes and the opportunity to present at a YGN Seminar.

The Subject Matter

We encourage you to make a presentation on any nuclear themed topic, whether technical, social or personal. We hope that this wide scope will encourage those of you new to, or thinking of starting a career in the nuclear industry, to participate. For those of you wishing to present a ‘commercial or sensitive’subject, we remind you of the importance of OBTAINING PERMISSION FROM YOUR EMPLOYERfirst.

The Experience

The aim is to give you the opportunity to gain valuable experience in communication skills in front of a live audience. Emphasis is placed on presentation rather than the written word and the ability to handle questions from an audience.

The Application

At this stage,all you have to do is submit the title and a 200word synopsis on your chosen subject and provide the application details requested overleaf. The synopsis will give the judges a flavour of the topics to expect. The sixbest synopses judged by the organising committee will be invited to present at the Presentation Competition for Young Speakerson Tuesday6th June.

Each talk will last for 10 minutes with 5 minutes for questions by the judges and audience.
