Information for all job applicants ~ 2015

The Foreland School is a Day Special School with currently 165full time places for pupils with severe, profound and multiple, or complex learning difficulties, many of whom also have Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Additionally we have an assessment pre-school facility in our First Leap Nursery accommodating around 24 pupils.

This is an exciting time to join the school as we are about to undertake significant rebuilding work to accommodate our rising roll and are planning for expansion on our current site from September and ultimately for a complete rebuild of the school on another site from September 2016.

As our school changes, flexibility in the school’s organisation will need to be maintained. Candidates should therefore be aware that this post is an appointment to the school as a whole, not necessarily fixed in the current Department.

The school provides for children ages 2-19 in four departments – Nursery/Infant, Junior, Seniors (KS3) and 14 to 19 Education (Saxon House) – plus two fully staffed inclusion bases within mainstream schools at Garlinge Primary School and Hartsdown Technology College.

The Health Authority has based some medical and therapy services within our premises, which means that the school has access to and liaison with Nurses, Doctors, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists.

Applicants for all posts must be committed to working in a multi-disciplinary team situation and must be prepared to work towards precise goals according to an agreed plan. Working with parents is an essential requirement and for most staff there will be involvement in discussions and meetings with colleagues. All posts include involvement in both moving and handling and personal care routines. Though new staff are initially attached to one department they may be required to transfer to another department within the school at some future date. General support and training will be provided within school but an interest in personal career development through in-service training will be expected.

The school has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and newcomers are given a warm welcome and up to 5 days induction training. All appointments are subject to satisfactory Occupational Health clearance.

This school, the Governors and all its personnel are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All posts are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Criminal Records Bureau. The Recruitment Panel will explore interviewed candidates’ attitude towards children, including:-

  • their motivation to work with children and young people
  • their ability to form and maintain professional relationships, and personal boundaries

For candidates who are short listed, any discrepancies or anomalies in the information provided, and/or any relevant issues arising from references, will be taken up at interview or discussed prior to employment. The final offer of employment will be subject to satisfactory explanation of any such issues.
