SWDSC STATUS REPORT - FOR THE PERIOD MARCH - MAY 2012

Dear TMC Members

We are very glad to once again report on activities happened during March – May 2012.

  1. Dispute - SWD Cricket and Pacaltsdorp Cricket Club

The matter has not been resolved since our last report and we are waiting on the outcome of the WC Arbitration in Dispute Resolution Forum. The date for the meeting was set for 28 May 2012.

  1. TMC Meeting - 16 May 2012

A newly TMC Committee was elected on 16 May 2012 because the previous Committee became defunct.

The new Executive members are:

  1. Women in Sport

A new committee was elected because they have only elected a chairperson who acted as convener. The following members were elected on 16 May 2012.

Proposed Events

  1. Women - Leadership & Stress Management Workshop - April 2012
  2. Youth Day - Sport & Games Day 2012

Conveners and Challenges

  1. Planned events cannot take place if no funding is available.
  2. A database of Women participation (i.e. leadership and sport

achievements) are been compiled, but this is hampered by poor Federation

cooperation.

  1. The MEC’S Celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March; excluded participation of Women of the SWD Region, because it is held dew the week. We request that is moved to a weekend to accommodate them otherwise it becomes an event for the Metro pole only.

Highlights

Golf: Monique Smit qualified as a professional to play on the Ladies European Tour F(LET) for 2012. Brendan Grace [George] won the Chinese Volvo Open and Louis Oosthuizen missed his “Green Blazer” by inches!

  1. SWDSC Provincial Coaches Commission

They are operational and all portfolios are filled. The executive consist of:

They are in a process of establishing their own website which will be linked to the SWDSC and WCPSC. In their last meeting (25 April 2012) it was decided to go on a roadshow within the SWD.

Challenges

  1. Funding remains a major challenge
  2. The absence of WC Coaches Commission meetings are a concern
  1. Riaan Loots Campaign

As part of the RLC the SWDSC will host a substance Abuse in Sport Workshop on 22 May 2012 in George. This will be done in partnership with the SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport.

The main objective of this workshop is to inform officials and competitors of the misuse and negative effects of these substances.

  1. Other SWDSC Activities – happened

6.1 Membership has increased to 52 affiliated federations and Local municipal councils.

6.2 The SWDSC has updated their website (Give it a new look) with links to all regional councils with websites, SASCOC, SRSA, the WCPSC and DCAS.

6.3 On 12 April 2012 the cheque handover of funds was done by the MEC in Mossel Bay. Twenty three (23) federations receive funding. Eight Federations will host major or national events in the region the next financial year.

7SWDSC AGM

This will take place on Friday 8 June 2012 in George.
