Youth Program Manager

Department:Forward Steps

Supervisor:Deputy Executive Director

Status:Full-time/ 30 hours / Exempt

Summary: Responsible for the planning, coordinating, and the facilitation of the Forward Steps program for the United Community Ministries between two community center after-school program settings and summer programs. They must providecurriculum-based social skill and leadership training to youth, coordinateeducation and enrichment activities, provide resources and referrals, and work with Fairfax County Public Schools, program partners, community stakeholders, and parents. Must be available to deliver program services 12 - 6 pm Monday through Friday, with some variance based on program activities.

Principal Functions:

Most work for this position will be carried out at UCM’s Sacramento Neighborhood Center and UCM’s Creekside Village Center:

  • Operate the Forward Steps program in accordance with Fairfax County Consolidated Community Funding pool contractual obligations.

  • Increase the number of students receiving tutoring services with the desired outcome of youth demonstrating improved academic performance.
  • Provide social development through curriculum and enrichment activities resulting in enhanced youth social skills
  • Provide education, structure and opportunities for parents to become more involved in the academic lives of their children.
  • Provide sound leadership and guidance to youth K-12, enrolled in UCM’s after school and summer programs.
  • Supervise Forward Steps Youth Tutor who is responsible for the academic portion of programming.
  • Supervise Creekside Village Community Center’s Teen Forward Steps program.
  • Research and collaborate on professional development opportunities for program youth aged 16-18.
  • Communicate effectively and build relationships with Fairfax County Public School administration and faculty.
  • Consult with youth, families, school personnel, and community resources to effectively monitor youth participant progression.
  • Participate in community center events, parent meetings, and other meetings pertinent to program development.
  • Collect and maintain service and outcome data for client case records as pertinent to all aspects of Forward Steps programming.
  • Maintain an extensive case file on each young person enrolled in Forward Steps programming including intake forms, program registration forms, transportation waivers, report cards, service notes.
  • Maintain electronic attendance records for all program participants.
  • Attend all UCM staff meetings (All-Staff, Leadership Team, Supervision… etc.)
  • Collaborate extensively with peers with diverse ethnic, racial, linguistic, and social backgrounds.
  • Assist with periodic program revisions to reflect emerging community issues and current youth culture.
  • Submit a detailed written weekly report to the Deputy Executive Director outlining the activities for the week, attaching a tutoring update, and including any challenges and resolutions.
  • Assist in the development of potentially viable youth development grants and funding opportunities.
  • Provide program updates at monthly staff meetings, and monthly Coffee for Children fundraising events.
  • Take an active role in the acquisition of professional development workshops and training.
  • Be the face of the Forward Steps program for United Community Ministries and work collaboratively with the Sacramento Neighborhood Center’s after-school and Computer Learning programs and Creekside Community Center’s after-school program.
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of each center’s strategic and action plans.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience with vulnerable or at-risk populations in an urban environment.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience is required.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Child Development, Child Psychology, or Social Work preferred.
  • Familiarity with Positive Youth Development Outcomes is preferred.
  • Experience tracking services and outcomes in an online data tracking software platform.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship skills.
  • Strong computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, and Apricot Data Tracking Software.
  • Understanding and practice of cultural humility and diversity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers and supervisors in an open and evolving dialogue.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with agency clients, participants, families, and other agency representatives.
  • Evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • Recent First Aid and CPR Certification is preferred.
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Positive attitude with a results oriented mind set is a must!

Environment/Physical Demands:
This position requires work with youth in various setting and may require lifting up to 40 pounds.

TRAVEL

Travel to and from satellite UCM location and meeting sites with a 3-5mile radius is expected. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
