UK Women's Choir to Hold Benefit Concert

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 10, 2008) –The University of Kentucky Women's Choirwill host a benefit concert and reception at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at the Hilary J. Boone Center on Rose Street. The concert will support their trip to the 61st Biennial Music Educators National Conference (MENC) to be held April 9-13, 2008, in Milwaukee.

The UK Women's Choir, under the direction ofLori Hetzel, consists of around 100 students from various majors in undergraduate and graduate study.The group has been invited to perform at several prestigious events at the local, national, and international levelsincluding the American Choral Directors Association National Convention and the MENC – Southern Division. In summer 2005, 50 members of the ensemble traveled to Europe to perform a total of five concerts in France, Germany and Austria, including a performance at the illustrious Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.To listen to UK Women's Choir perform "Sing a New Song to the Lord" by Paul Basler, visit

Hetzel, who conducts both the Women's Choir and the a cappella group Paws and Listen, is the associate director of choral activities and a professor of choral music education at UK School of Music.

Tickets to "A Celebration of Women and Song" are $40. Sponsorships are also available for individuals interested in attending the event and supporting the UK Women's Choir trip. The sponsorship options are as follows:

  • $375 sponsorship, which supports the cost of one woman toperform, includes listing in the program, two tickets to theMarch 30th event, and a UK Women’s Choir CD;
  • $500 Corporate Sponsorship,which includes listing as sponsor, a full page ad in the program, four tickets to the March 30th event and UK Women’s Choir CD; and
  • $1,000 Corporate Sponsorship, which includes listing as sponsor, a full page ad in program, 10 tickets to the March 30th event, UK Women’s Choir CD, and a musical performance at sponsor's party or reception by the a cappella group Paws and Listen.
