Sunnyside Independent Parent Teacher Association

(SIPTA)

Meeting Minutes

September 12, 2017

President Kim Pillen called the meeting to order at 7:34 a.m.

Who was Present: See sign-in sheet (attached).

Officers Present: Kim Pillen, Nycole Eoff

Teacher Report

Mrs. Dotson wrote a grant with staff collaboration for $14,500 to become a STEAM school. She was able to get a lot from grant but still has a wish list. Thinking of maybe setting up some of the things on display in the lobby (robotics, K’Nex, etc.) to draw enthusiasm.

Mrs. Robertson is asking for $50 for Girls on the Run for this year. It is up and running with a total of nine girls participating this year. (She has $60 left over from last year.)

Principal Report

Enrollment is at 148 with a vacancy in PreK expected to fill quickly. There are 18 new students; a new first grade teacher, 3 paras and Mrs. Pickett moved to second grade for the year. Bulldogs are coming in slowly. Talking with Mary Bates regarding the GoCO grand opening.

Treasurer Report

Last year SIPTA received $2,500 for Bulldog Club, $800 from Dawn Spaeder for GoCO, and the three major fundraisers brought in about $35,000, with about $15,000 expenses, netting about $20,000. Still have lots of prize inventory and enough to start presales.

Halloween Fundraiser: New ideas of pumpkin carving contest, hay ride, move more activities outside, hay bale maze? First committee meeting will be Tuesday, September 19 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sunnyside library.

Butterbraids: Maybe alternate Butterbraids with Lil Ceasar’s Pizza kits or cookie dough. Butterbraids brought in $7,000 last year. It was felt that people would buy anything just to support our school, but like the idea of having both. Pizza sales not related to a holiday season.

St. Patrick’s Day: Do NOT interrupt the auction with the students’ performances!!
