Transition/Study Skills

Welcome to the Resource Room! This is by far, the most important year of school! Not only will we be meeting on a daily basis and working towards your goals, but we will be learning many new skills to help you succeed in the future! As you are aware, this is a credited course, which will be calculated as part of your overall GPA. Below, you will see a description and daily format that you will be required to follow for the year.

Instructional Goals:

*To assist you in developing specific study strategies (modeled during instruction) that

you can use in your content area courses. Once taught, it is expected that you will

practice using the strategies so that you can use independently.

*To provide you with the opportunity to review supplemental materials to reinforce

skills learned in academic courses.

*To provide you with a location in which to utilize accommodations outlined in the IEP,

such as extended time on tests, tests read aloud, etc.

*To promote student responsibility and lifelong learning.

*To develop a better knowledge of career/vocational/and or college choices.

Student Responsibilities

*Each student will be responsible for bringing ALL necessary materials to class daily.

*Each student will participate actively in all aspects of the class.

*Each student is expected to be on time and in your assigned seat when the bell rings.

*Each student is expected to use time and the assistance available to ensure success.

*Each student is expected to behave appropriately in class and respect others

*Cell phones must be onSILENT and IPods or other electronic devices must be off and

not visible in the classroom.

*Before and after school help is available Monday-Friday

Daily Schedule

*Journal/folder/agenda -10 minutes

*Skill activity/mini lesson/transition activity- 10-15 minutes

*Homework help/core skill help 15-20 minutes

*Text books

*Highlighter, pencils, pens

*Daily planner

Grading System

90-100%- A 80-89%-B 70-79%-C 60-69%- D 59% and below
