Sculpture refers to the visual arts process of carving, modeling, casting, welding and/or the assemblage of material to produce three-dimensional works of art. In this course you will learn technical, historical, aesthetic, cultural and contemporary concerns of sculptors. As a class we will talk about the importance of sculpture in various cultures, and you will develop your own personal and artistic ways of creating.

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

In Sculpture, students will extend the study of the visual arts through the development of basic art skills and problem-solving techniques with an emphasis on three-dimensional design and spatial awareness. In doing so, students will expand their artistic skills analytically, conceptually, and technically and will further develop their visual arts vocabulary. Students will use various techniques with a variety of materials to produce three-dimensional work. Students will learn production of functional and non-functional sculpted art. The material learned in the foundation classes of Studio Art, DDP, IEP and Creative Crafts should be applied to all works in regards to the elements and principles of design.

“The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.” – Dee Hock
