Your student is applying to participate in an exciting summer science-technology-engineering-mathematics (STEM) program called VA CyberCamp 2016. The VA CyberCamp 2016 is grant funded by the Virginia Department of Education and sponsored in partnership with the Norfolk State University Computer Science Department.
VA CyberCamp is designed to promote awareness of career opportunities in cybersecurity . Students in VA CyberCamp 2016 will learn basic programming and coding while exploring concepts of electricity, circuits, and networks. Students will also research and discuss current cybersecurity events .
Dates & Location for VA CyberCamp 2016: (Your student must be available for all three weeks)
July 18 – August 4 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at I.C. Norcom High School
Transportation/Food:
Breakfast and lunch are provided free of charge!!
Bus Transportation to and from I.C. Norcom High School will be provided daily.
Transportation for field trips will also be provided free of charge.
Cost: FREE

Teacher Recommendations: Your application Packet must include two current teacher recommendations (preferably from your math, science, or technology teachers). Recommendations will include comments regarding your academics, learning style, classroom behavior, an ability to think abstractly, persistence, maturity, and creativity. Two blank forms are part of this packet.
Student Essay: Your application packet must include a one-page essay on how you perceive you will benefit from attending VA CyberCamp 2016. The essay may also include comments about your academic achievements and your interest in STEM pursuits.
The deadline to receive an application packet is Friday, May 13, 2016. All applications will be reviewed and selected by a panel of the partnering organizations. Final program participants will be chosen and notified by Friday, May 20, 2016.
