Annual Report 2012 – 2013

A. Mission

AASU’s University Counseling Center provides services to help students grow and develop, overcome personal problems, and learn the coping skills they need to succeed in meeting their academic goals. Students will be helped to appreciate their own identify and culture of origin.

B. Departmental changes for 2012 – 2013

1. Ms. Julianna Williams, LPC retired as of May 01, 2013.

2. Ms. Carmelia Lowman, LPC was hired as of June 1, 2013

3. M.D. visits (3 hours each) increased from 10 per 6 month contract

to 12

4. M. D. contract rewritten and made into 1 year contract with 24

scheduled visits per year.

C. Usage statistics from June 10, 2012 to May 31, 2013.

1. Individual counseling sessions: 11/2 hours for initial intake session, and Alcohol and Drug Education

sessions, 1 hour regular session, 2 hours or more for emergencies.

a. 2,303 sessions scheduled (31% increase from fiscal

year 2012)

b. 151 cancellations and 206 no shows (357 total is

16% of our scheduled as compared to 21% in FY

2012) c. 1539 face-to-face sessions (12% increase from FY

2012)

2. Psychiatric appointments: ½ hour initial evaluation and 15 minute

follow-ups

a. 402 appointments scheduled (up 29% from FY

2012)

b. 17 cancellations and 64 no shows = 81 total (20%

of total appointments scheduled vs. 17% in FY

2012 c. 305 face-to-face sessions with MD. (17% increase

from FY 2012)

3. Presentation totals:

a. 27 presentations (15% increase from FY 2012

b. 783 students in attendance (32% increase from FY

2012

space with no room to expand, and will need more office space if

we were to hire additional staff. .
