Strathcarron Hospice Retail Ltd is looking to recruit DeliveryDriver/Assistants based from our Central Distribution Centre at Burnbank Road in Falkirk.

The Distribution Centre supports our 17 Retail Units which are already established throughout Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.

Key duties of this dualrole will include delivering and uplifting furniture from households and businesses.Uplifting donations and making deliveries to our Retail units and assisting the Central Distribution Centre and Furniture Store withtheir day to day operation.

Applicants must possess a clean driving licence, should be flexible in their work approach,available to work at weekends if required and contribute to the retail team to develop all retail activitieswhile professionallyrepresenting and maximising the income for Strathcarron hospice.

2.JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will be part of the Central Distribution CentreTeam ensuring the provision of a professional incoming goods, storage and dispatch service to Retail outlets, Customers and Donors with speed, accuracy and high levels of customer services.

The post holder will work closely with the Central Distribution Manager and will participate in a range of duties including the uplift of furniture from houses and businesses, uplift from and delivery to ourRetail Units and assisting the day to day operation of both the Central Distribution Centre and the Furniture Store.

  • Computer literacy.
  • Experience within a busy warehouse environment.
  • An evidenced knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety, legal requirements and Trading Standards requirements.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Effective communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Data protection guidelines.

5.SKILLS REQUIRED

6. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To ensure an exceptionally high level of Customer Care is promoted and maintained when dealing with retail units, customers and donors.
  • To collect and deliver goods across all the Strathcarron Units and Households plus other locations as required.
  • Assist to collect donations from all Retail Units and Householdsthen empty the van back at the Central Distribution Centre or Furniture Store.
  • Opening and sorting stock (mainly donated used goods) and storing stock in accordance with procedures.
  • Gather stock from theCentral Distribution Centre for delivery to specific Retail Units in accordance with any specific requests.
  • Undertaking accurate periodic inventory and stock takes, communicating results to retail managers and responding to requests with speed and efficiency.
  • Ensure all areas around the Central Distribution Centre are kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • Report any vehicle issues to Central Distribution Manager.

7.THE PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:-

  • Computer skills – Must be experienced in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel.
  • Good command of the English language both verbally and in writing.
  • Good numeracy skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work calmly and methodically when under pressure from a busy and varied workload.
  • Proven ability to use initiative.
  • Must be flexible to the needs of the post as this may require working outside normal working hours.
  • Willing to participate in training and updates.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment.
  • High level of honesty and integrity.
  • Positive “can do” attitude.

Desirable: -

  • Voluntary sector experience.
  • Experience of working in a people related environment.
  • Good knowledge of local catchment area.
  • Experience in retail environment.

8. WORKING CONDITIONS/EFFORT

  • Requirement to respond to retail manager requests efficiently at short notice.
  • Regular communication within team and other departments or third parties as necessary.
  • Heavy lifting throughout the day.
  • Busy workload.
  • Must be flexible to the needs of post as this may require working outside of normal working hours.
  • Willingness to participate in training and updates.
  • Working VDU/PC for some part of the role.

Terms and Conditions:The terms and conditions of service are those laid down in line with the Whitley Council terms and conditions.

Location: Strathcarron Hospice.

Salary Scale:Band 1: £16,532 per annum pro rata

Hours:Full Time:37.5 hours

Employees may be required to vary the pattern of their working week subject to the exigencies of the service.

Duration:Permanent.

Annual Leave:27 days rising to 29 days after 5 years’ service and to 33 days after 10 years’ service plus 8 public holidays (pro rata).

Or

202.5 hours rising to 217.5 hours after 5 years’ service and to 247.5 hours after 10 years’ service plus 60 hours public holiday (pro-rata)

Sick Leave & Pay:In accordance with Strathcarron Hospice provisions.

Superannuation:This post is superannuable under The Falkirk Council Local Government Superannuation Scheme and your remuneration will be subject to deduction unless you choose to opt out of the scheme.
