Job Summary

This is a national role that will strategically guide new business developmentwithin Dementia UK, harnessing key opportunities and developing important partnerships in order to increase the number of Admiral Nurses while maintaining quality and sustainability.

The Strategic Business Development Manager will also develop robust business processes and write corporate materials to showcase the evidence base for Admiral Nursing while demonstrating value for money. Most importantly, the role will balance the need for driving new business with the values of the charity, ensuring that at all times the message given keeps families living with dementia at the heart of our work.

Apivotalsenior role within the charity, this post offers significant opportunities for innovation, development,and growth of existing services. You will work closely with the Director of Operations,Chief Admiral Nurse/Chief Executive Officer, Director of Clinical Services, Trustees, and Senior Management Team (SMT), to strategically cultivate new business development; fostering dynamic growth and sustaining current Admiral Nurse posts..

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fosternew and innovative partnerships to demonstrate that Dementia UK is at the forefront of collaborative working to provide clear and seamless care along the dementia pathway
  • Manage the Business Development Team (BDT), providing direction, encouraging innovation, and strategic thinking in attaining Dementia UK’s planned objectives
  • Manage, monitor, and enhance the Common Business Process, ensuring thatapproval processes are maintained and that all new services are assessed and authorised at the appropriate levels.
  • Work in close partnershipwith the Service Evaluation and Information Service Teams, ensuring and enabling the collection of data to provide evidence of impact for Admiral Nursing Services
  • Create consistent and professional corporate materials that demonstrates value for money and the gold standard of Admiral Nursing
  • Ensureconsistency and solid contractual agreements with partners to protect the brand of Admiral Nursing and to ensure quality control
  • Work cross-departmentally to ensure business development processes and controls are completed in a timely and appropriate way and that SharePoint is updated regularly
  • Ensure regular and timely updates to all staff regarding new service development, especially in designated counties (pump prime) and restricted funds areas.
  • Keep up to date and share information regarding the external agenda of policy, funding and other changes that impact on the charity
  • Encourage innovation and, working alongside the Director of Operations, Director of Clinical Services and the CEO/Chief Admiral Nurse, constantly horizon-gaze andconsider new ways of working to ensure sustainability
  • Using knowledge of the sector and competitors, identify and develop Admiral Nursing’s unique selling propositions and differentiators as a basis for strategic development
  • To balance the need for new development with the equally important requirement of supporting and sustaining existing Admiral Nurse services and enabling staff to do this effectively
  • Identify business development skills and knowledge gaps and develop, plan, and deliver appropriate learning opportunities
  • Proactively and constantly look for and capture potential opportunities where Dementia UK can gain value; income, influence, savings or other, by working with external partners.
  • Write strong, emotive and compelling proposals, initiate prospecting meetings and develop and deliver winning pitches/presentations for new partnerships/business.
  • Manage the development of expressions of interest, concept notes and pitches to potential partners, including assessment of all partnership requirements, background research/positioning, development of partnership/consortium arrangements and preparation of budgets where required
  • Make robust assessments and present complex information qualitatively and quantitatively in a coherent manner
  • Participate in developing realistic and competitive pricing for services in accordance with market demand and existing provision
  • Initiate, develop and maintain strategic relationships with organisations and individuals in line with Dementia UK’s Strategic Plan
  • Facilitate strategic discussions with appropriate colleagues relating to opportunities to pursue
  • Consult with colleagues to gather information, and then develop effective approaches to approved new contacts/partners.
  • Track and monitor progress; reporting back to the Director of Operations and SMT
  • Manage the mitigation of risk associated with service contracts
  • Maintain records of all tender and funding submissions, acquiring and assessing available feedback to inform quality of future bids and staff development needs.
  • Ensure the appropriate use and promotion of the Dementia UK brand and brand initiatives.

General

  • Establish methods for gathering and sharing good practice, local intelligence and experiences across Dementia UK
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in Fundraising & Communications to ensure that business development opportunities for new work, services and solutions for people affected by dementia can utilise and provide leverage opportunities for voluntary income via funders and donors.
  • Contribute to the development and running of national initiatives which are developed and delivered through cross-departmental working
  • Work collaboratively with all Teams within DUK, sharing responsibility for the achievement of jointly agreed objectives where appropriate
  • Work in a manner that facilitates inclusion, particularly of people with dementia and family carers
  • Administrate and organise own work to ensure that it is accurate and meets quality targets, reasonable deadlines and reporting requirements
  • Build and maintain a strong knowledge of Dementia UK’s activities & services
  • Work within the policy framework of Dementia UK

Person Specification

The preferred candidate will have the following experience, abilities and aptitudes:

Essential

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent and demonstrable experience
  • Substantial, relevant and up-to-date knowledge of dementia and best practice approaches to dementia care and support
  • Proven track record in identifying and respondingrapidly to new business opportunities
  • Demonstrable ability to build and manage strong teams, encouraging professional growth and rewarding good work
  • Experience of developing business proposals within a framework for viability, sustainability and strategic fit
  • Working knowledge of the current commissioning environment as it relates to health and social care
  • Capable of balancing the need for new development with the equally important requirement of supporting and sustaining existing services
  • Demonstrable ability to build, maintain and develop partnerships which further the goals and aspirations of both parties.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team and to develop their skills and encourage engagement and innovation
  • Ability to be able to produce consistently high quality, imaginative and compelling materials; proposals, letters and pitches.
  • Experience of short and longer-term strategy development, implementation and review
  • Demonstrable experience of negotiating and securing contract income through tendering processes including the project management of submissions.
  • Experience of working with contract documentation and risk management in relation to statutory bodies and service deliverywithin health and social care and the regulatory and quality assurance environment.
  • Ability to come up with new ideas and approaches to engage varied staff and or external audiences and see them through into practice
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver multiple concurrent activities within agreed deadlines and to agreed standards
  • Experienced in successful cross-organisational working
  • Deliver all work with great professionalism and customer service
