Atomic Structure Project

Standards and Rubric: To follow

1.  Research the accomplishments of the following scientists in regards to atomic structure; Scientists: Earnest Rutherford, JJ Thompson, John Dalton, Niels Bohr, the Greeks.

2.  Create a timeline of the scientists to include dates, pictures, locations, persons, accomplishments. 8.5 x 11 landscape is fine. NEAT!

3.  Create a Venn diagram showing the similarities and differences on their views and discoveries in regards to the atomic structure.8.5 x 11 landscape NEAT! Use compass to make diagram.

4.  Research another scientific discovery, theory, advancement, body of knowledge etc. that required the work of many scientists over time.

5.  Indicate the discovery, theory, advancement, body of knowledge etc. of the scientists involved and provide a timeline to include the elements listed above and put both timelines one after the other.

6.  Compare the atomic theory to the discovery, theory, advancement, or body of knowledge etc. that you researched and indicate which one you feel was more important or influential and provide artifacts to back up your point view. This must be typed!

7.  You MUST provide all hand written notes, 1st draft with corrections written or typed, then final draft TYPED.

8.  For each scientist provide a brief biography, obstacles, points of interest, HOW they LEARNED/DISCOVERED what they did, and what contribution they had towards that body of knowledge, invention, scientific law, discovery, etc. The concept that you decide on should include at least 4- 5 scientists.

9.  Each scientist (9-10) should have at least 1-2 typed pages. That gives you about 10-15 pages.

10.  The comparing aspect in regards with the two bodies of knowledge should contain, 3 examples of EACH discovery etc. of why this knowledge is important (give each its application). Then construct a persuasive essay. Essay should have an introduction, body (3 examples of application for each body of work (6 total) and why they are important, influential etc), then a clear conclusion of which body of scientific knowledge is more important to you and why. This should be approximately 3-5 typed pages. DOUBLED SPACED TIMES ROMAN 12pt font.

11.  Include a bibliography.

12.  Plagiarism is reason for failure. If you don’t know how to write a research paper ask for help.
