SPC Executive Meeting AGM
April 9, 2016
Present: Steve Moerman, Haley Stenberg, Sarah Bleichart,
Absent: Chris Loewen, Kelsey Moeller, Maria Pawlyshyn, Kim Champagne, Laurie VanMiddlesworth, Rhea Dufort
1) Meeting Called to order at 12:45pm. We have Quorum
2) Chairperson Business (Steve Moerman):
a. Welcome
b. Purpose of SPC-MB Section
· The purpose of our council is to provide leadership and direction to our members for the advancement of sport physical therapy within Manitoba. The two main ways we do this, are through a Postgraduate educational system and by organizing physiotherapy coverage for numerous sporting events in the province
c. Introduction to Executive Committee:
· Executive Chairperson – Steve Moerman
· Treasurer/Secretary – Kim Champagne (Acting)
· Event Coordinators – Rhea Dufort and Maria Pawlyshyn
· Educational Chair – Haley Stenberg
· Equipment Coordinator – Laurie Van Middlesworth
· Marketing and Communications – Kelsey Moeller Brown (Acting)
· Membership Development – Chris Loewen (Acting)
· SMSCM Representative – Sarah Bleichert (Acting)
d. National update:
· Since 1991 the MB-Section of SPC has been an incorporated not-for-profit organization in Manitoba.The incorporation status gained the section eligibility for funding through Sport Manitoba.However effective 2015, under the Not for Profit Auditing Standards, the CPA is required to report all financial activities of all sections and sub‐sections. So in order to maintain recognition as the provincial section in Manitoba, we were required to dissolve as a Provincial incorporation, to continue to be recognized as the Manitoba Section of SPC, a Division of CPA
· This dissolution of our incorporation status in Manitoba resulted in us no longer being eligible for funding from Sport Manitoba.This has little effect on our day-to-day operations and the executive committee has made budget adjustments to make up the for the lack of funding
Financial Update:
· Financial review
o 2015:
§ The only major difference in last year’s projected and actual budget was in our miscellaneous category. This was because we replaced 4 of our plinths and bought a new banner for events
§ Current account balance is $32 656.08
o 2016:
§ Significant changes/cuts to the budget due to the ~$8000 loss of funding from Sport MB and Bingo allocations were made to the 2016 budget
§ Will be cutting a few major costs (as displayed on the screen), and we are not expected to make a profit this year, but the budget has been balanced
o The motion was carried
3) Nominating Committee
· Next order of business is the report of the nominating committee:
· Nominations include:
i. Kelsey Moeller Brown - Communications and Marketing
ii. Kim Champagne - Secretary/Treasurer
iii. Chris Loewen - Membership Development
iv. Sarah Bleichert - SMSCM Representative
· If no further nominations – approved.
