Purpose / This unit standard is for people working in the embalming industry.
People credited with this unit standard are able toexplain: how trauma and chemical substances can affect cell tissues in the body during the embalming process, and how disease can influence the body and the embalming process.

Outcome 1

Explain how trauma and chemical substances can affect cell tissues in the body during the embalming process.

Evidence requirements

1.1The effect of burns on the body is explained in terms of the impact on the embalming process.

1.2The effect of fractures on the body is explained in terms of the impact on the embalming process.

1.3The effect of chemical substances on the body is explained in terms of the impact on the embalming process.

1.4The effect of other trauma on the body is explained in terms of the impact on the embalming process.

Rangetrauma includes but is not limited to – drowning, shooting, soft tissue injuries, surgical trauma, asphyxiation.

Outcome 2

Explain how disease can influence the body and the embalming process.

Evidence requirements

2.1The effect of disease on the body is explainedin terms of the impact on the embalming process.

Rangeincludes but is not limited to diseases of the – digestive system, musculo-skeletal system, circulatory and lymphatic system, nervous system, respiratory system, urinary system, endocrine system, skin.
