General description

The Maggie is the ultimate in large screen, ultra-light weight, portable electronic magnifiers for anyone who wishes to see something more clearly. With its large 5" hi-contrast LCD screen, the Maggie can still be slipped into a shirt pocket or a small purse.

With two bright white LEDs you can see to read the menu in a dimly lit restaurant or identify your keys in total darkness. Additionally, and especially for those with Macular Degeneration, the Maggie mode button provides white text on a black background for reduced glare.

  • On/off
  • Mode
  • Zoom

Bottom edge

In the right hand corner of the bottom edge is a hole for the wrist strap. This should already be attached.

Using the product

When using the Maggie for the first time, you will need to take the battery out of transport mode. To do this, locate the battery isolation switch which can be found by lifting up the stand on the back of the unit. It’s just underneath the right hand hinge of the stand. Slide the battery isolation switch to the left to enable the battery.

Turning the Maggie on and off

To turn the Maggie on, press and hold the power button which is the button furthest to the left on the top edge.

To turn it off, simply press and hold the same button again.

Using the Maggie

You can either unfold the stand and rest the Maggie on a document to read it, or you can hold the Maggie in your hand.

Please note: The stand is designed that if it is accidentally “snapped out”, it can be simply “clicked” back into place by pressing the stand back into position until you hear a click.

Adjusting the magnification

The Maggie has two levels of magnification. To increase magnification, press the zoom button which is the button furthest to the right on the top edge. To decrease, press the zoom button again.

Changing the colour mode

The Maggie has three colour modes to choose from. Black on white, white on black and full colour. Press the mode button, which is to the right of the on/off button, to select the colour mode you require.

Charging the battery

The Maggie’s rechargeable battery lasts approximately 6 hours. The Maggie can be charged in two ways: using the mains, or via any computer, laptop or anything else with a USB port. A large red icon will show you when it's time to charge and a large green icon (slowly and gently flashing) will show you when the Maggie is charging.

Charging via the mains

WARNING: When assembling the charger, ensure that the plug is not already inserted into the wall, and that the wall socket is switched off.

The charger comes in two pieces: USB cable and a 3 pin wall plug. This needs to be assembled. On the plug, locate a rectangle shaped hole on the edge – this is the USB socket. Now locate the end of the cable with the biggest connector – this is the USB connector that fits into the USB socket. The USB connector only fits one way into the USB socket;so ensure that the cable connector isn’t forced into the USB socket as this could cause damage to the connector and plug. Only light pressure should need to be applied if the cable’s USB connector is the correct way up for it to be fully inserted into the socket. Once inserted, you can then take the other end and insert this into the Maggie. Now, insert the 3 pin plug USB charger into a wall socket and switch on to charge.

Charging via the USB cable only

If you would rather use a USB port on a computer or laptop etc, the same principle as above applies for inserting the USB connector into the devices USB socket. If the cable is already inserted into the supplied plug, ensuring that it is not plugged into the wall, holding the connector simply pull the USB cable out of the plug. Now take the USB connector end, insert gently into the device with a USB port. Now insert as before the opposite end of the cable into the Maggie.
