Save the Children is currently one of the leading emergency response organizations in Pakistan. Save the Children’s emergency responses have included a long-standing Afghan refugee program, a large-scale response to the October 2005 earthquake in Khyber PakhtunKhawa (KPK) and AJK, and multi-project responses to the 2007 floods in Baluchistan, 2008 floods in KPK and Punjab, 2010 Monsoon Flood emergency throughout Pakistan and August 2011, flood emergency in several districts in the southern (lower) part of Sindh province, Pakistan. Recognizing the history and frequency of emergencies in Pakistan, Save the Children offers capacity building opportunities on Disaster Risk Reduction to district based services departments, to improve their capacity on preparedness, response and recovery. In order to improve preparedness and response during emergencies to protect children in schools, district based education managers, teachers and community at large have been the main beneficiary of Save the Children Disaster Risk Reduction interventions. In order to promote child Centered DRR in schools, Save the children besides many other interventions intents to develop DRR based children activity book and guide for teachers to provide a hands on experience to children to be able to get familiar with different disaster, preparedness and response through games. This consultancy intends to hire services of a professional/firm with adequate experience and skills of developing children activity book based on DRR theme, teachers guide how to use it and English translation of two of the training manual developed earlier by Save the children on different themes.
A. Prime Objectives of Consultancy
Prime objective is to develop Children Activity Book based on DRR theme to promote Child Centered Disaster Risk Reduction in schools. Details are:
- Develop/Modify activity book developed for Child-friendly schools’ children on DRR, (Urdu & English) for Govt. primary School children.
- Teachers’ Guide on how to use this book (Urdu & English)
- English Translation of 2 manuals earlier developed by Save the Children.
B. Duties and Responsibilities
Consultant(s) would focus on the following key work tasks:
- Review the existing DRR based activity books available
- Work in close coordination with Education and DRR team.
- Develop activity book and other material on the agreed themes
- Revise and finalize the activity book and other material developed in light of the feedback from the DRR and Education team.
- All the material will be finalized in easy-to-understand Urdu and English language.
C. Deliverables
Deliverable 1: 2 DRR based children activity book (each for CFS and Govt. school children)
Deliverable 2: Teachers Guides
Deliverable 3: Translation of 2 Training Manuals
Deliverable 4: Revisions if required after feedback from Education and DRR team.
D. Timeframe:
The expected duration of this consultancy isone month and would likely be started from1st week of Feb, 2012.
E. Payment Procedure
(Total amount of the consultancy is Rs. 300,000)
The payment shall be made upon completion of the following milestones.
50% of the total amount shall be paid upon completion and submission of first draft of activity book and other material mentioned above in deliverable.
Balance amount shall be paid upon completion and duly submission of all deliverables.
