EASTER HOLIDAYS 2016 PROGRAMME

Sat 12March – Equine Table Top Sale at Liverton Village Hall 1.00 -3.30. Details are on our website. Please support this event. It’s a chance to have a clearout, a chance to grab some bargains and a chance to get your Fundraising Achievement Badge.

Sat 19 March – Holwell Parents Work Day at 10.00am. Please bring paintbrushes, wear protective clothing, heavy duty rubber gloves. This is the day when we prepare the course for the year and it is very important that parents come along and give a hand – many hands make light work!

Mon 21 March – Area 16 Indoor XC Evening Clinic at The Grange with William Blane. This is clinic is organised by Area 16 and is for those competing at 90cm or 1m. The cost is £15 for those riding. The evening counts as a CPD evening for any instructors or potential instructors who go as spectators. The cost for attending for CPD purposes is £10. Fri 8th April,10 - 12 noon Introduction to Endurance Riding - Dismounted rally.A presentation by Endurance GB SW, with horses, outlining the aims, tactics and horsemanship associated with this sport. To include a summary of equipment and a demonstration of crewing and vetting. There will be the opportunity to gain experience of crewing and taking the horse's heart rate. It is open to members of secondary school age. This will be good preparation for members who wish to attend the Haytor Pleasure ride on Sunday 17 April, 2016, or for anyone who wishes to know more about this equestrian discipline. Directions to Parkview:A38 from Exeter to Plymouth. Take the 2nd turning off the dual carriageway signposted Ashburton (Peartree turning) and turn left to Landscove. The road is very up and down, when it noticeably flattens out at the top of the hill, Parkfield Bungalow is the 1st entrance on the left. White wall with black pillars signed Parkview Bungalow. Follow drive downwards, pass bungalow on the right. There is room for parking at the bottom.

Sun 17 April – Haytor Endurance GB Pleasure Ride. The ride departs from Green Lane, Ilsington near Haytor (thanks to Ed Williams for the use of this venue). It covers a circular route on the moor towards for 16km. There is some road work on single lane country roads and some road crossings. A photographer will be on route and a Dartmoor Farmers catering van onsite. The Ride organisers are Gary Bartlett and Vicky Queen, email Tel 07739363503 or 01364 661176. Please contact Gary/Vicky for an application form or visit: They are offering the opportunity for local pony club members to compete in this pleasure ride as a mock endurance ride, with awards granted in line with a graded endurance ride. Sun 24 April – OUR HUNTER TRIAL AT HOLWELL LAWN. The mini course is ideal for your first competition, and we expect all members to be there competing and supporting their branch on this much-envied superb cross country course. The schedule will be on the website.

Sun 22 May - Bluebell Ride at Holwell Lawn for Lead-rein or accompanied children. Holwell Lawn is a beautiful sight at this time when the bluebells are in full bloom.

NOVICE, INTERMEDIATE AND OPEN AREA TEAMS, Novice fences max height 90cm, Intermediate are max height 1.00m and Open are max height 1.10m. You should be out competing at the appropriate level before you can be considered for selection for an Area team. You and your horse must have participated at 3 rallies between July 1st 2015 and the date of the competition, (one rally must be in 2016). If you wish to be considered for teams please indicate on your slip. You will need a rule book for each discipline in which you wish to represent the Branch. Rule books can also be downloaded from the main pony club website or bought from Jenny for £3.00

Those who are interested in taking part in the area competitions will be expected to take part in some team training sessions. We are planning on starting the team training soon after the Easter Holidays. Dates and venues for the training sessions will be sent to those who tick the slip expressing their interest.

PONY CLUB CAMPS

Junior Camp – 25–27 July at Centyfield. For those who are primary school age. Please contact Polly Bamford if you would like more details. We still have spaces, if you want to attend junior camp please send the £50 deposit with your reply (if you have not already done so).

Senior Camp – From the evening of 23 August until the afternoon of 28 August at Pontispool, Staple Fitzwarren, Taunton. For members who are secondary school or above. Price is £265 for first member in each family and £245 for second or third member of the same family.please tick your slip if you intend to come, to give us an idea of numbers. A deposit will be requested in May.

Area 16 Camp at Warren Farm 4/5 July. For members 17 and over. Details to follow

SAFETY NOTICES:

Trailers and lorries -please remember for the start of the season to get your trailers and the floors of trailers and lorries checked over.

Stirrups – When you change your riding boots to a larger size, you should check that your stirrup irons are still the correct size i.e. they must be large enough to allow about 1cm at each side of the rider’s foot, the measurement being taken at the widest part of the boot or shoe. Please regularly check the stitching on your stirrup leathers.

DRESS CODE

Dismounted Rallies you should wear suitable warm clothes including boots, riding hats and gloves.

For Mounted Rallies – you are expected to wear a hacking jacket if you have one, with Pony Club tie and badge. If you do not possess a hacking jacket, you must wear your Pony Club sweatshirt, with tie and badge. For mounted rallies at Holwell Lawn, we are happy for you to wear your Pony Club sweatshirt or a plain sweatshirt (no hooded tops) with tie and badge. A body protector and gloves are essential. Medical armbands must be worn at all mounted events. Long hair should be secured appropriately. Jewellery may not be worn including earrings and body piercings. If you are contemplating piercing your ears or any other part of your body, you should be aware that you will not be allowed to participate in any mounted activity until the sleepers can safely be removed.We have been advised that long sleeves have to be worn for XC, so please be advised that we will be enforcing this at competitions, rallies, XC schooling and camp.

Body Protectors / Air Jackets.For XC Body protectors are compulsory. We also advise that body protectors are worn for SJ.If your child is wearing an air jacket, it is your responsibility to make sure your child knows whether he/she is allowed to re-mount without their air jacket, should it inflate.Please note there are new rules this year on Body Protectors. Body Protectors used for Cross Country and Pony Racing must meet BETA 2009 Level 3 standard (purple label). Full details are on the website

Hairnets – girls are expected to always wear hairnets at rallies, training sessions and competitions.

Spurs – please ask Emma to sign a spurs certificate if you wish to wear them. ONLY those who have their B TEST or who have written permission may wear spurs at rallies or competitions.

Hats – Riding hats must be checked/tagged with the White 2015/16 tag. Plain navy/black hat covers to be worn at all rallies. If you hat has not been tagged, do not get on your pony until the hat has been checked and tagged.

High Visibility / Fluorescent Clothing – Please make sure that you and your horse wear high viz gear every time you are on the roads, whether it be on the way to rallies or out for a hack. It makes a huge difference to you being seen by drivers and could save your life.

Medical armbands are recommended for hacking.
