Jesus Garcia-Foncillas is currently the Director of the Department of Oncology at the University Hospital “Fundacion Jimenez Diaz” (Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain). He combines this with the roles of Director of the Translational Cancer Research Division at the Health Research Institute FJD-UAM (Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain) and Coordinator of the Comprehensive Cancer Program of three Hospitals at Madrid.

Prof Garcia-Foncillas obtained his MD from the School of Medicine, University of Zaragoza, Zaragoza, Spain, and was awarded PhD from the University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain. He was subsequently awarded a fellowship in medical oncology at the University Clinic, Pamplona, following his research training at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, USA, and at the Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE, USA.

Currently he is also the Vice-President for the National Medical Oncology Commission, Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs Council on Medical Specialties.

Prof. Garcia-Foncillas has directed his scientific endeavors towards applying basic research to cancer diagnosis and treatment. He has held several positions both nationally and internationally, such as President of the Tenth National Congress of the Spanish Cancer Research Association, Coordinator of the Genomics and Proteomics Program at the Network of Cancer Centers (Carlos III Health Institute); Board Member for the Spanish Group on Hereditary Cancer, Board Member for the Spanish Federation of Oncology Associations (FESEO), Steering Committee member for the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and Pharmacogenomics Committee, consultant for this same agency and member of the European Union Biotechnology Commission. Furthermore, he is a correspondent academician for the Royal Spanish Academy of Medicine (Zaragoza) since 1998 and Honorary Member of the Mexican Oncology Association and the Latin American Oncology Association since 2005. Additionally, Prof. Garcia-Foncillas is trustee of the Olga Torres Foundation, Merck Salud 2000 Foundation and Foundation for the Excellence and Quality in Oncology (ECO). He has been the President of the V Meeting of the Spanish Society of Pharmacogenomics and Pharmacogenetics and currently he is the President of the Mediterranean Oncology Society (MOS) from 2011.

Prof. Garcia-Foncillas is author of more than 120 articles and several classical books on Cancer
