Singapore Biennale Volunteer Programme Mission

Volunteers play a large part in the success and effective execution of the Singapore Biennale (SB). Not only are they front-line ambassadors of the Singapore Biennale, but are also involved in the behind-the-scenes of it, playing a part in bringing art and people together. As an extension of the Singapore Biennale to the people, Volunteers play a key role in setting the tone and environment of the Biennale for the audience.

The Singapore Biennale Volunteer Programme invites people from all walks of life to participate and sets out to provide Volunteers with opportunities to bring their own unique talents, experiences and knowledge to the Biennale, making it more enriching and enhanced. Through the various volunteering roles, the programme aims to build the capacity and capability of volunteers to be arts ambassadors that inspire others. The collaboration and partnership with Volunteers is valued by the Biennale and essential to meet its mission of making contemporary art accessible to all.

Volunteer Roles & Description

Volunteers for Singapore Biennale 2016 (SB2016) Volunteer Programme take on various functions and roles. The role assigned is based on the qualities that each Volunteer possesses such as experience, enthusiasm, passion, dedication and professionalism.

Each and every role is crucial for the success of the SB2016. Below is the list of the various functions of each volunteer role.

Function / Job Description
Artist Liaison Assistant / ·  Acts as the main contact between guests/artists and SB2016.
·  To assist in enhancing the guests/artists’ experience of arriving in Singapore, by attending to their needs and making them feel at home.
Artist Assistant / ·  To assist artists to ensure the efficient materialisation of the artworks, as well as to provide onsite administrative support during the installation and de-installation process.
·  Background in fine arts is a necessity
Events Assistant / ·  To provide assistance in all event-related tasks, and provide registration, crowd control management, ushering and logistics support.

Volunteer Application

The Singapore Biennale Volunteers play a vital role in the execution and daily running of the event. As we want the SB2016 Volunteers to get the most out of their experience and be well prepared for their roles and tasks, each volunteer will take on a journey prior to the start of SB2016.

Application

Application to participate in SB2016’s Volunteer Programme is currently ongoing. People from all walks of life and who are passionate about art, are encouraged apply to be a Volunteer with SB2016. Please note that applicants should be 16 years of age and above.

Briefings

All SB2016 Volunteers will go through various briefings. This programme will prepare Volunteers and give them an overview of the SB2016 Volunteers Programme.

Additional briefings will also be provided for certain volunteer roles. These sessions will cover specific duties and procedures relating to the specific roles. Attendance for briefings is mandatory for all Volunteers.

Time Commitment

All Volunteers will work in shifts, and the shifts vary for the different roles.

I, the undersigned Applicant, hereby agree to serve as a Singapore Art Museum (SAM) Volunteer for: Singapore Biennale (SB) 2016
I affirm the facts in this form are true and complete and that I have further read, understand and agree as follows:-
1.  To perform my volunteer duties to the best of my ability.
2.  To meet time and duty commitments, or to provide adequate notice so that alternative arrangements can be made.
3.  I am fully aware of the possible risks involved which includes but is not limited to bodily illness, injury, emotional distress or economic loss that I may sustain directly or indirectly from my participation in the relevant activities and accept the same.
4.  I do undertake to release and discharge SAM, its staff, volunteers, partners, or any other servants or agents from all liabilities, costs, claims, charges and expenses, for any accident, injury, loss or damage whether directly or indirectly caused by and/or myself/other person(s)/other organisation(s) that may occur in the course of, or as a result of volunteering with SAM.
