REPORTS:

City of Shelby

City Council will meet on Monday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 pm for a special meeting to review infrastructure projects and funding mechanisms.

The TBID meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 15 has been cancelled.

The Social Media Committee Facebook November campaign is “Give thanks for…” and the December campaignis “Hometown for the Holidays!” The committee would like to invite families and individuals to post a Christmas memory/family tradition with pictures past and present. Toole County Combined Fund Drive brochures have been sent to all households in Toole County. They ask that you generously consider your donation to the 20 very worthwhile organizations that are represented.

Marias Medical Center

  • The MMC Hospital Auxiliary is accepting donations of Christmas decorations for their Christmas Store and Bake Sale. Christmas decorations can be dropped off at 222 Main Street anytime before the sale on Dec. 2-3. Bake sale items will be accepted on Dec. 2 & 3. Hours for the sale are: Dec. 2, 8 am to 7 pm; Dec. 3, 8 am to 1 pm; Dec. 4, 1 to 5 pm.
  • Toole County Health Foundation-Tree of Lights:The Toole County Health Foundation is now taking names for the 2016 Tree of Lights event on Monday, December 12 at 7pm, hosted at Marias Healthcare Services. We will also have special music from the SHS band! Join us to honor or remember a family member, friend, or member of the armed services by including their name on the Christmas trees. Donations/name submissions can be sent to or by mail to TCHF, PO Box 915, Shelby, MT 59474.
  • MMC Auxiliary-Christmas Rummage and Bake Sale: The MMC Auxiliary is hosting the annual Christmas-Items-Only Rummage and Bake Sale on: Friday, Dec. 2nd from 8am-5pm; Saturday, Dec. 3rd from 8am-1pm; Sunday, Dec. 4th from 1pm-5pm. The event will be held in the office space next to Spa 30 on Shelby’s Main St. We are currently accepting donations of Christmas items to sell.   • A Christmas Tree Auction will be held on Dec. 2 at the Civic Center at 7 pm.
  • A new doctor will be at the facility in early December. He will be covering the ER during the Thanksgiving holiday. He is a family practice MD with OB and will do chemo ports.

Merchants Associationwill meet on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 8 am at The Griddle to discuss the upcoming holiday season.

OLD BUSINESS:

Follow-up Street Fair Meetingwill be held after the first of December with the Street Fair Committee to discuss next year’s event.

Christmas Village: Spots have been assigned at the Lake Sheloole Campground to the 14 entities that have signed up to decorate. CCA and Marias Medical Center will provide manpower to work at the event on the evenings the park will be open for viewing except on Friday Dec. 9th. The Chamber will solicit workers for that evening.

November Chamber After Hours- Edward Jones Investmentswill host the event on Tuesday, November 15 from 5:30 to 7 pm. Attendees are encouraged donate stocking stuffers for all ages, such as shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hot wheel cars, small toys, etc. for “Brotherly Love” packages. An extra door prize ticket will be earned with a donation.

2017 Chamber Membership Drive-Dues letters for membership renewal have all been mailed. This is the Chamber’s main fund raiser and covers rent, wages, taxes, insurance, and office supplies.

Social Media Project/ Trip Advisor- After last week’s meeting, Crissy got a Trip Advisor widget set up for the Chamber website and added some area listings. The Social Media Committee will a follow up and get more Shelby info listed on this site.

NEW BUSINESS:

Chili Feed Donations: An email was sent out last week requesting chili donations for the Dec. 4th event. To date we have received about half the donation amount weneed to feed the expected 200 attendees. Donations of any size are accepted- Crock Pot or roasters. Please contact Audie at the Chamber office by phone (434-7184) or email if you are willing to donate some chili. The Merchants provide muffins for the event. 5 to 6 workers are also needed to help at the event to help serve chili and wipe tables. CCA inmates will do cleanup after the event.

November Central MT Meeting: Cheri Hirst and Audie attended last week’s meeting in Great Falls. $40,000 in print ad placement in 6 national publications was approved and $100,000 was approved by the Board of Directors for digital advertising in 17 different platforms. This advertising will begin in January and continue through April/May when tourists are planning their summer vacations to encourage them to consider vacationing in Central Montana.

Dec. 2-4 Bridge Tournament will be held at the Shelby Senior Center with about 80 attendees from Southern Montana and South Alberta. The Chamber is preparing some information packets for the event.

Business of the Week:For over seventy years, Larson Clothing in Shelby has been known for the quality merchandise it sells. Open Forum:

The Prairie Oasis Annual Bake Sale Fundraiser will be on Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Shelby Liquor Store.

The Shelby Comfort Inn and Suitesis offering “Stay One Night & the 2nd Night is Free” promotion from Nov. 20 to Nov. 27 and Dec. 18, 2016 to Jan. 2, 2017. Reservations must be made in advance and there is no limit on the number of nights reserved during the promotional period. Mention the offer when calling for reservations.
