1. About the Programme

The Intra-ACP academic mobility scheme supports higher education cooperationbetween countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP). The scheme aims topromote sustainable development and poverty alleviation by increasing the availabilityof trained and qualified high-level professional manpower in the ACP countries. The program builds on the African Union’s Mwalimu Nyerere Programme for Africa with funding from the European Commission. Sharing Capacity to Build Capacity for QualityGraduate training in Agriculture in African Universities (SHARE) is one of the Intra-ACPMobility Scheme supported projects with 12 partner universities in Eastern, Central,Southern and Western Africa (see for details).Applications are invited for SHARE mobility scholarships. SHARE is designed to provideresources and opportunities for students' mobility from four regions of Africa, offeringsupport for Masters and Doctoral studies as well as staff exchange among theconsortium partners.

2. Who is Eligible?

The scholarships are open to Academic and Administrative Staff from:

  • Stellenbosch University, South Africa
  • University of Cape Coast. Ghana
  • University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria
  • Lilongwe University of Agriculture and natural Resources (LUANAR), Malawi
  • Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya
  • Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique
  • Makerere University, Uganda
  • University of Zambia, Zambia

An applicant must:

  1. Be a national and resident in the abovepartner countries
  2. Work in or be associated with anyof the above mentioned HEI at the time of application for a scholarship.
  3. Have sufficient knowledge of the language used in the host countries.

In addition, mobility assignments will be based on agreement between the members of the partnership. The home and host partners and the individual staff will have to agree on the programme of lectures to be delivered by the visiting staff, research activities, type of training to be followed or type of administrative cooperation to be developed.

3. Scholarship Offers Available

Seven(7) scholarships are available for Academic and administrative staff mobilities to address mutually agreed needs for professional development of university staff in any of the partner countries (check for a detailed list). Staff opportunities are limited to staff employed by the project partner universities, and hence enhancesharing capacities and mutual institutional exchanges. Benchmarking exercises and sabbatical research periods are included in this type of mobility. Specifically, activities of mutual interest may include: guest lecturing, curriculum development, collaborative research, sharing of knowledge and experiences in administration/management, mentorship, etc. The duration of the mobilities is between 1-3 months.

4. What the scholarship covers

The scholarship covers subsistence allowance (Eur. 1,000 per month), medical insurance (Eur. 75 per month), return air-ticket and visa expenses. For details, please refer to the brochure on theproject website.

5. How to Apply for a SHARE Scholarship

Please refer to the areas of interest for staff exchange by the partner institutions published on the project website; To apply, download the staff application form on the project websiteand complete it in MS Word. Send the typed form as attachment to with a copy to and . In addition, please also attach the following documents: Proof of employment by a partner institution, an up-to-date curriculum vitae, and letter of support from the sending institution.No hand written applications will be accepted.

6. Applications Evaluation and Selection

The following process will apply in the evaluation and selection of the applicants;

1 Eligibility criteria

The criteria foreligibility will include:

a) Proof that the applicant is from a partnerinstitution

b) The application deadline is respected

c) The right application form is used

d) All required documents are provided and are legible

e) The application is in English

2 Evaluation of the Applications

The following procedures will be followed in the selection of the applicants:

  1. Your application will be sent to the host institution to establish their interest and willingness to host and support the intended activities
  2. The host institution will communicate to SHARE secretariat regarding their willingness to host the applicant and the most appropriate timing for the proposed activities. The host institution may modify, add or take away some of the proposed activities.
  3. The feedback from the host institution will be communicated to the applicant.
  4. Once a mutual agreement is reached, the project scholarship selection committee will make a decision on mobility.
  5. The decision of the selection committee will be communicated to the applicant and host institution and logistical arrangement will commence to implement the mobility

Please note that in case a selected applicant is afterwards identified as not eligible, theindividual must reimburse the costs incurred by the project until that moment.
