A Tale of Two Theatres:
On behalf of Sunshine Theatre Company and Theatre Kelowna Society, thank you for attending our production of the delightful musical SEUSSICAL.
This is a very exciting and different project for both our organizations. It is the first time ever that Kelowna’s professional theatre company
(Sunshine) and Kelowna’s longest-running community theatre company (TKS) have collaborated to produce a show together. A co-production like this may be unique in the country!
The best reason for collaboration is to bring together the best of both worlds and we believe this project does that. This format allows Sunshine Theatre to be involved in a big show that would be prohibitively expensive to produce with an all-professional cast. It gives TKS members the chance to work with some professional theatre artists and technicians both on stage and behind the scenes. It is also a great community building and learning opportunity for both companies.
It’s a great partnership, but it’s only worth doing because of our ‘other’partner YOU, the audience! Once again, thank you for joining us on this new ‘THINK’!
Debby Helf, Theatre Kelowna Society
David Mann, Sunshine Theatre Company
Director’s Notes:
Our production of SEUSSICAL is the result of many wonderful “thinks” and an innovative collaboration between Professional and Community Theatre. This has been a rare opportunity to join creative forces, combine our talent and energy to work on a very special project.
The works of Dr. Seuss that have inspired this musical are truly magical and we have become immersed in all the fun of bringing them to the stage. This has been a delightful experience for me, and I am so fortunate to have such an enthusiastic cast and imaginative production staff to work with. Thanks to them all for their love and support.
I know you will have your own special moments of joy as you experience many of your favourite Dr. Seuss stories, and my hope is that your imagination will run wild as you watch the story unfold.
I just ask you to “think and wonder and dream far and wide as you dare.”
Best wishes for a Happy Holiday Season!
Don Keith, Director
