Expectations document

The aim of this document is to outline what is expected of both players and committee members in order to ensure a safe, supportive and fun playing environment and ensure the future of the club.

Club members

All members of the club will be proactive in upholding the positive reputation of the club both on and off the pitch. Any bullying, aggressive, threatening or insulting behaviour toward match officials, opposition, supporters or other club members will not be tolerated. Such behaviours must be challenged, low level incidents may be resolved through peer challenge however serious incident or sustained poor behaviour must be raised with a committee member.

Members are expected to help the effective running of the club. This will include providing membership forms and complying with annual requests to confirm the information supplied, abiding with club polices, umpiring and generally acting in a flexible manner to support all teams.

Players are expected to support their captains by arriving early for matches, assisting with providing teas or transport and providing match availability as requested. Players will be allocated to a team by the squad selection process (see committee expectations) and are expected to play for that team but be flexible to assist other teams to support to wider ambitions of the club to ensure a presence in three separate divisions of the Kent Outdoor League. Where squad allocation causes concern or issue, players will raise this at the earliest opportunity with the club chair.

Members will raise any concerns they have with the running of the club with any committee member.

Committee

Committee members will act with sensitivity, integrity and objectivity to ensure the best interests of the club at all times.All committee members will be receptive to constructive criticism aimed at developing the club. Where concerns are raised, the anonymity of players will be respected if this is requested.

Committee members (club chair and captains) involved in squad selection will take a dynamic approach of continual assessment using league, friendlies and summer league to assess players. New players will be assessed at training or on the club open day at the start of season. Squad selection will be handled with sensitivity and while the best interest of the club are paramount special cases may be dealt with by representation to the club chair. Annually, a provisional squad will be agreed over the closed summer period and confirmed prior to the first league match of the following season.

The committee, and captains in particular, will relay messages to teams in a timely and consistent manner. Players will be informed of their squad allocation at the start of the season and as soon as possible after any changes.

The committee will ensure the club is fit for purpose by complying with England and Kent hockey rules and policies including registration. It will also ensure participation in the Kent Outdoor League and appropriate summer leagues, seeking out other opportunities for hockey including tournaments and friendlies.
