Dear Parents / Carers,

Brighton Children’s Parade final details

The Brighton Children’s Parade is nearly upon us, on Saturday 6th May. This letter includes all of the details that you will need for the Parade.

The Parade starts at 10:30am but you will need to get to our meeting point at 10:00am so that we can fill the gap that has been allocated to us.

Our meeting point is Pelham Street and we are number 36 in the Parade so look for a large flag with the number 36 on it when you get there.

The route that the Parade will take is as follows:

Kensington Street

Jubilee Street

New Road

North Street

East Street

Grand Junction Road (A259)

South Esplanade

Madeira Drive

Event Facilities

Lost Children:

There will be lost child provisions across the event to assist with reuniting lost children with their teachers/parents/guardians. The positions for these will be as follows:

  • Unit 1: 2 x walkers at rear of the parade with St John’s ambulance.
  • Unit 2: 2 x walkers at front of parade until it arrives at Madeira Drive then stationary at Madeira Drive at a point close to the Volk’s Railway office.

It is a good idea to write the mobile telephone number that you will have with you on the day on a piece of paper and put it in your child’s pocket, or write the number on their arm, so that you can easily be found if there are any problems.

If you do lose your child on the day you can phone the Lost Child unit on 07580 617211.

First Aid

There will be first aid provisions across the event including an ambulance that follows the parade. If you have an incident requiring first aid treatment, please contact event staff immediately so that they can get help to you.

Weather

With regards to foul weather, the event will proceed as long as it is safe to do so, and regarding the possibility of fine weather, please remember to bring a good supply of water and sun cream.

It is really important that all adults walking the Parade with their children also get into the mood of the Parade and dress up. So a quick reminder that our theme is The Seasons from the poem ‘January cold desolate,’ and our colour scheme is Black as a base with either white for winter, green for spring, yellow for summer or orange/red for autumn.

Please also use face paint. As mentioned before you can either do a relevant colour stripe that fades (dabbing with a sponge is good for this) across the eyes, or create some wonderful leafy designs on your faces that represent your season.

If you do not wish to keep your large trees after the Parade and it is possible, please return them to the school for us to use in the future.

If you have any questions about the Parade please email me on

I am looking forward to yet another fantastic parade with you all. Keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine!

Best wishes,

Emma Power
