BEFORE WE BEGIN: What was your takeaway from this past Sunday’s sermon?

ATTRIBUTE: Wise

God’s actions are based on His character. His wisdom causes Him to choose righteous ends and to make the most fitting plans to achieve those ends. (Job 9:4; 12:13; Daniel 2:20-22) Precept Ministries International

DOCTRINE: God the Father

The first person of the Trinity is God the Father, the Creator and Sustainer of all things and the Judge of all. He begat the Lord Jesus Christ and condescends to be the Father of all who believe in Him. (See Isaiah 64:8; Malachi 2:10; Galatians 4:6; Ephesians 1:3-4)

DAY 1 Read: Proverbs 23:12-16

1. To be a godly father, mother or friend, what must first take place in our lives? (Ephesians 2:5-8; I Corinthians 2:1-5)

2. Why is the family unit so important to God? (Genesis 1:27-28, I Timothy 3:4)

3. How would you explain Proverbs 23:12 to a child?

DAY 2 Read: Proverbs 23:12-18

1. Give reasons godly discipline of a child is important to the Lord.

2. According to this passage, God wants parents to be more interested in the soul of a child than the child’s happiness. Contrast this with what the world tells us today.

3. Describe the expectations in verses 15-18.

DAY 3 Read: Proverbs 23:19-28

1. What are the father’s warnings given in verses 19-21? How are these the opposite of what the world says?

2. Satan’s appeal is to the flesh. The wicked woman appeals to a young man’s (or woman’s) appetites; “use your body as you please – enjoy life. There are no consequences.” What evidences of this appeal do we see today? What are the consequences?

3. Describe how these verses encourage you to warn others to follow God’s ways and not the world’s.

DAY 4 Read: Proverbs 23: 28-35

1. The abuse of alcohol is evident today. List some of the consequences you see in families and in individual lives.

2. God’s instructions are for our protection. Give principles from the following verses: (Psalm 119:9, 11, 24, 105; Psalm 19:14.)

3. What emotional, social, physical and mental problems do you see in these verses?

DAY 5 Read: Proverbs 23:12-35; Romans 14:13-16, Proverbs 24:3-4

1. Sometimes God asks us to give up something that might be a stumbling block to others. Will you pray and ask God to show you where this might be true in your life and share this with your group?

2. From Proverbs 24, what are God’s rare and beautiful treasures?

3. What changes need to be made so others will see the Lord in your home?
