4.02 Graph, factor, and evaluate quadratic functions to solve problems.4.04 - Graph and evaluate exponential functions to solve problems
E.Q’s for the Week:
Mon. - How are trinomials factored? How are the differences of squares factored? How is perfect square trinomials factored?
Tues. -How are quadratic functions graphed? How are quadratic equations solved by graphing? How are polynomials used to represent real-world problems?
Wed. - How are exponential functions graphed?
Thur. – How are problems involving exponential growth and decay solved?
Fri. - How are geometric sequences recognized?
Materials: Learning Focused Support Documents
**graphing calculator required, notebook paper, pencil, algebra student textbooks, square boxes,Matho, square puzzles, flash cards, visual approach lesson print-outs, Frayer diagrams, ticket out the door slips,
Literacy enhancements:
greatest common factor (gcf), factored form, factorization, completely factored, distributive property, grouping, trinomial, difference of squares, perfect square trinomial, quadratic function, parabola, axis of symmetry, vertex, x-intercept, quadratic equation, roots, zeros, discriminant, completing the square, quadratic formula, exponential function, exponential growth, exponential decay, geometric sequence, common ratio, geometric means
Adaptations:
•Solving quadratic equations will be taught using paper and pencil and using a graphing calculator. •Different methods will be taught. •Ordered Pairs (x, y) will be used for guided practice and summarizing to enhance student comprehension. •Math games will be used to vary activities and maintain student interest: Chart/ box method, algebra tiles as hands-on manipulative, Matho, and square puzzles. •Instead of overhead, use document camera.
