A RESOLUTION honoring the Madison Central High School Indians, 2013 KHSAA Boys Sweet Sixteen Basketball Champions.

WHEREAS, on March 10, 2013, before a crowd of 17, 315 fans in historic Rupp Arena in Lexington, the Madison Central High School Indians defeated the Bruins of Louisville Ballard High School 65-64 to win the 2013 KHSAA Boys Sweet Sixteen Basketball Championship; and

WHEREAS, the championship game, which was one of the most exciting in the storied history of Bluegrass prep basketball, saw the Indians rally from a 12-point halftime deficit, which ballooned to 16 midway through the third quarter; and

WHEREAS, after regaining the lead with five minutes left in the game, the Indians again found themselves trailing by four points with under 20 seconds remaining in the game, when a Dominique Hawkins jumper was followed by a George Walker steal which set up a Ken-Jah Bosely three pointer with just 4 ticks left on the clock to give the Indians their first state championship; and

WHEREAS, the championship game marked the end of a three game run through the tournament which saw the Indians trail in each game with less than 3 minutes remaining, survive an overtime in the quarterfinals against Covington Holmes, and a deficit of as large as 12 points in semifinals against Hopkinsville before the drama of Sunday's final; and

WHEREAS, the championship game win capped a season which saw the Indians win 32 games against only 5 losses, including victories in their final 12 games; and

WHEREAS, the veteran Indians, with eight seniors on their roster, were led on the floor by Sweet Sixteen Most Valuable Player Dominique Hawkins, who averaged 26.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 32 minutes played per contest during the tournament, and was also awarded the KABC Larry Conley Ultimate Teammate Award; and

WHEREAS, other key Indians included Seniors Ken-Jah Bosley, whose 20-point championship game performance included the game-winner, and Quan Taylor, who had 16 points and 12 rebounds in the final game, and who were both named to the All-Tournament Team with Hawkins; and

WHEREAS, other members of the Indians included Seniors Chris Conner, Zach Jarvis, George Walker, Hunter Stocker, and Daniel Parke, who was the winner of the Forcht Bank/Kentucky National Insurance Uncommon Excellence Award and a Sweet Sixteen Academic Scholarship; Juniors Coty Alexander, Demarcus George, and Ross Ramsey; Sophomores Griffin Hotchkiss, Kirkland Humphrey, and Sam Jones; and Freshman Cameron Thomas; and

WHEREAS, the Indians were guided to the championship by Head Coach Allen Feldhaus, Jr., for whom the championship victory was a small measure of redemption in that 32 years ago, as a player for Mason County High School and coached by his father, he had suffered a championship game loss; and

WHEREAS, Feldhaus was assisted by Kenny Roberts and Brandon Fritz; and

WHEREAS, the achievements of the Madison Central Indians and the determination, drive, and never-say-die attitude of this resilient basketball team will forever be recorded in the annals of Kentucky high school basketball as one of the most special teams to ever garner a championship, and are worthy of public recognition;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
