PART 1 - GENERAL

1.3  ACTION SUBMITTALS

1.5  FIELD CONDITIONS

  1. Interruption of Existing Water Service: Do not interrupt water service to facilities occupied by Owner or others unless permitted under the following conditions and then only after arranging to provide temporary water service according to requirements indicated:
  2. Notify [Architect] [Construction Manager] [Owner] no fewer than [two] <Insert number> days in advance of proposed interruption of water service.

1.6  WARRANTY

  1. Manufacturer's Special Warranty on Domestic Products: Conbraco Industries, Inc. warrants products to be free of defects in workmanship or material for a period of five years. This warranty applies to Apollo brand products with "Made in the USA" markings only. Conbraco will correct such defects by suitable repair or replacement at Conbraco's discretion.
  2. Manufacturer's Special Warranty on International Products: APOLLO INTERNATIONAL products will be free of defects in workmanship or material for a period of two years. Conbraco will correct such defects by suitable repair or replacement at Conbraco's discretion.
  3. Manufacturer's Warranty on LASCO Fittings, Inc. products will be free of defects in workmanship for a period of three (3) years from date of installation. The manufacturers liability under expressed or implied warranty or for any reason is limited to furnishing replacement units or granting a credit for defective units.   4. Elkhart Products Corporation warranties our fittings to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of fifty (50) years, . The Elkhart Product Corporation Water Heater hoses carry a two (2) year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Any fitting which proves to be defective will be replaced or a credit issued, but no incidental labor charges, expenses or damages will be allowed.

2.1  PIPING MATERIALS

See "Writing Guide" Article in the Evaluations for a discussion of how this Section is organized and the most efficient way to revise this Section. See "Piping Materials and Standards" Article in the Evaluations for a discussion of piping materials covered by referenced standards.

  1. Comply with requirements in "Piping Schedule" Article for applications of pipe, tube, fitting materials, and joining methods for specific services, service locations, and pipe sizes.
  2. Potable-water piping and components shall comply with NSF14 and NSF61Annex G. Plastic piping components shall be marked with "NSF-pw."

2.2  COPPER TUBE AND FITTINGS

Tube in "Hard Copper Tube" Paragraph below is available in NPS1/8 to NPS12 (DN6 to DN300).

  15. Fittings for NPS2-1/2 to NPS4 (DN65 to DN100): Cast-bronze or wrought-copper with stainless-steel grip ring and EPDM-rubber, O-ring seal in each end.

Fittings in "Copper Push-on-Joint Fittings" Paragraph below are available in NPS1/2 to NPS2 (DN15 to DN50).

  6. Cast-copper fitting complying with ASMEB16.18 or wrought-copper fitting complying with ASMEB16.22.
  7. Maximum 200 psig (1379 kPa) working-pressure rating at 250 degF (121 degC).
  8. Stainless-steel grip ring and EPDM-rubber O-ring seal.

Connections in "Copper-Tube, Extruded-Tee Connections" Paragraph below can be used instead of tee fittings in copper tubing; delete below if prohibited.

Fittings and couplings in "Appurtenances for Grooved-End Copper Tubing" Paragraph below are available in NPS2 to NPS8 (DN50 to DN200).

  8. Bronze Fittings for Grooved-End, Copper Tubing: ASTMB75 (ASTMB75M) copper tube or ASTMB584 bronze castings.

AWWAC606 does not cover couplings in "Mechanical Couplings for Grooved-End Copper Tubing" Subparagraph below. At least three listed manufacturers make this type of coupling with dimensions for copper tube and fittings. Another manufacturer has a system for expanding the ends of copper tube and fittings so couplings for steel piping may be used.

  2. Copper-tube dimensions and design similar to AWWAC606.
  3. Ferrous housing sections.
  4. EPDM-rubber gaskets suitable for hot and cold water.

2.3  DUCTILE-IRON PIPE AND FITTINGS

Pipe in "Mechanical-Joint, Ductile-Iron Pipe" Paragraph below is available in NPS3 to NPS64 (DN80 to DN1600).

  1. Mechanical-Joint, Ductile-Iron Pipe:
  2. AWWAC151/A21.51, with mechanical-joint bell and plain spigot end unless grooved or flanged ends are indicated.
  3. Glands, Gaskets, and Bolts: AWWAC111/A21.11, ductile- or gray-iron glands, rubber gaskets, and steel bolts.

Fittings in "Standard-Pattern, Mechanical-Joint Fittings" Paragraph below are available in NPS3 to NPS48 (DN80 to DN1200).

  1. Standard-Pattern, Mechanical-Joint Fittings:
  2. AWWAC110/A21.10, ductile or gray iron.
  3. Glands, Gaskets, and Bolts: AWWAC111/A21.11, ductile- or gray-iron glands, rubber gaskets, and steel bolts.

Couplings in "Mechanical Couplings for Grooved-End, Ductile-Iron-Piping" Subparagraph below are available in NPS4 to NPS24 (DN100 to DN600). Other AWWA pipe size couplings in NPS3 to NPS36 (DN80 to DN900) are also available.

  2. AWWAC606 for ductile-iron-pipe dimensions.
  3. Ferrous housing sections.
  4. EPDM-rubber gaskets suitable for hot and cold water.
  5. Bolts and nuts.

1)  NPS14 to NPS18 (DN350 to DN450): [250 psig (1725 kPa)] <Insert value>.

2)  NPS 20 to NPS 46 (DN 500 to DN 900): [150 psig (1035 kPa)] <Insert value>.

2.4  GALVANIZED-STEEL PIPE AND FITTINGS

Galvanized-steel pipe and fittings corrode over time. They rust from the inside out. Galvanized-steel pipes can corrode to the point where the pipes are completely restricted. Corrosion also occurs in steel that is connected directly to copper or brass.

  2. ASTMA53/A53M, [TypeE] <Insert type>, [GradeB] <Insert grade>, Standard Weight.
