Meeting Discussion / Decisions:
Newsletter Articles
· Joe asked the committee to consider articles for the September issue.
Computer Club
· The official name for the new computer club is the “SCC Computer Technology Club”.
· How to incorporate the computer club with an academic program was discussed. Would it be possible to create a new lab course in lieu of the club? The committee decided to revisit that issue in the fall.
Computer Use Policy
· Curt reported that the policy was passed in the College Council and Corinna sent word that the policy was passed in the Senate.
· The approved policy has been given to outreach and the policy will appear in the student handbook.
· Mary Halvorson will take the new policy to curriculum instruction so that the policy can be added to the catalog.
· The next step will be to create a dialog box that will pop up when students log onto the network. The dialog box would require students to agree to the policy before they are granted access to the computers. Now that a policy has been approved, Curtis is looking into the feasibility of making that happen.
iTunesU
· Joe Yorba has not yet talked to Jeff from Apple, Inc. But, he has contacted Jeff by email requesting a presentation.
Room Mediation/Office 2007 Migration
· Curt presented a detailed report of computers on campus that are ready for Office 2007 and a report on which classrooms will be mediated.
· The following classrooms will be mediated in the fall: A105, A106, A107. U86, U97, U98, U103, U104, B209, B210, B211, B212, U94.
· Curt reported that of the 1151 academic and administrative computers on campus at this time, 60% of them have the hardware needed to install and run Office 2007. Of the 40% of the computers that are not currently ready for Office 2007 a few of them will be replaced anyway in 2009.
· Does Connie know of anyone who would like to teach the basics of Office 2007 during FLEX?
Other
· BlackBoard Vista—Cindy asked if SCC would be upgraded to BlackBoard Vista in the near future. Scott James reported that the Distance Ed Task Force has decided not to upgrade to BlackBoard Vista. The current opinion is that BlackBoard Vista still has a few bugs that need to be worked out and it would be better to reevaluate it at a later date.
