Try Out: Saturday, March 8th

Cheerleading try-outs for Sale Creek High School will be held on Saturday, March 8th at 10:00. The try-out will consist of a cheer and a portion of a dance. Practice for try-outs is mandatory and will be from 2:30-4:30 on March 5th – 7th . Practice is until 4:30 to allow time for 5th graders to get to Sale Creek. The high school participants may leave anytime after 3:30. Try-outs will be on Saturday, March 8th at 10:00. Girls will be notified of the results on or after March 8th .

In order to try-out, all forms must be turned in no later than 2:30 P.M. on Wednesday, February 26th to Kelly Hawkins. You must have a current physical on file in the office. If you have one on file, let me know and I will copy it. Anyone trying out cannot have anything below a “C” on the 2nd nine weeks report card. I will check all the students at Sale Creek myself. If you are a student at any other school, you will need to bring a copy of your 2nd nine weeks report card with you to the first practice on March 5th. The following forms are to be turned in by February 26th: Sports Medical Form (unless you have one on file in the office), permission to try out form, and 2 teacher recommendation forms. A copy of the sports medical form can be found on the school’s website.

I will not be coaching cheerleading next year. As of this date, the new coach has not been named.

Permission to try-out for SCHS Cheerleading

Dear Prospective Cheerleaders and Parents,

Cheerleading requires a large commitment of time and money. Please seriously consider these commitments before try-outs. If the time commitment is too much for you, please do not try out. Time commitment is as follows:

·  There will be one practice a week during the months of April and May. Most likely on Monday from 2:30-3:30.

·  We will be going to camp at Tennessee Tech June 3-6. Camp is required. If you cannot attend camp, please do not try out.

·  There will be one or two practice(s) a week during the months of August and September.

·  Football games are on Friday night and are usually a pretty good distance from Sale Creek.

·  There will be two or three games a week during basketball season which is the middle of November until the middle of February. Many of these games are an hour or more away (and some have a time difference) such as Van Buren, Marion County, Cleveland and Whitwell. You must provide your own transportation to all ball games.

The financial commitment is as follows:

·  Camp will cost $350

·  Shoes and pom poms will cost about $100 (same as last year)

·  Camp wear will cost around $150 (you may need to purchase one bra top on your own)

·  Uniform will cost about $250. There may be used uniforms you can purchase from previous cheerleaders. That will be your decision and between the parties involved.

So, if you are selected to be a cheerleader, the cost will be around $800 which will be divided into 3 payments (1st payment due March 21, 2nd payment due April 25th and 3rd payment due May 16th).

·  There is also an athletic fee of $25, which will be paid when school starts. I will send home a notice for this as a reminder.

·  Jacket will be purchased in August and will cost about $130.

If selected, you will also be expected to maintain grades of a “C” or higher on each report card. If a cheerleader makes below a “C” on a report card, that cheerleader will be off the squad until the progress report goes out.

PERMISSION TO TRY-OUT FORM

By the nature of the activity, cheerleading and gymnastics carry a risk of physical injury. No matter how careful the participant and coach are, how many spotters are used, or what landing surface is used, the risk cannot be eliminated. The risk of injury includes minor injuries such as muscle pulls, dislocation, and broken bones. The risk also includes catastrophic injuries such as permanent paralysis or even death from landing or falling on the back, neck or head. I understand these risks and will not hold Sale Creek School or any of its personnel responsible in the case of accident or injury at any time.

I also understand that cheerleaders must attend all practices, cheerleading events, and be on time for games unless cleared by the coach in advance. If selected, I promise to abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the coach and the principal of Sale Creek School. I promise to cooperate and follow the instruction of the cheerleading coach.
