The Iowa College Aid (ICAN) would like to inform you about a number of financial aid scams and companies that prey on Iowa families. From ICAN “Each year parents & students fall prey to companies offering free financial aid seminars. These companies offer to complete a family’s financial aid application (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for a fee often ranging from $500 to $1,500. There are reputable Iowa resources that can help answer your FAFSA questions & help you complete your FAFSA free of charge. You can contact the Iowa College Student Aid Commission at 1-877-272-4456 &/or schedule an appointment with the Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) at 1-877-272-4692. If you already paid for this type of service & are dissatisfied, please contact Al Perales at the Iowa Attorney General’s office 515-281-6413.”
