Carbon Storage Assurance Facility Enterprise (CarbonSAFE) Storage Complex Facility
The purpose of the FOA entitled Carbon Storage Assurance Facility Enterprise (CarbonSAFE): Storage Complex Feasibility is to solicit and competitively seek research and development projects which will perform the initial characterization of a storage complex identified as having high potential, to establish its feasibility for commercial storage (50+ million metric tons CO2). The objectives of this phase include and extend the pre-feasibility work, focusing on one or multiple specific reservoirs within the defined storage complex, and comprising efforts in data collection; geologic analysis; identification of contractual and regulatory requirements and development of plans to satisfy them; subsurface modeling to support geologic characterization, risk assessment, and monitoring; and public outreach.

Domestic Nuclear Detection Office: Academic Research Initiative (ARI)
The ARI program addresses the security, prevention and protection per the PPD-8 by seeking novel cross-cutting research that will enhance national security’s capability to detect and interdict nuclear or radiological material outside of regulatory control, and otherwise help prevent nuclear terrorism or radiological attacks. The ARI Program has two primary objectives: 1) Engage the academic community to advance fundamental knowledge for nuclear and radiological threat detection, nuclear forensics and related sciences with emphasis on fundamental research to solve long-term, high-risk challenges and 2) Develop human capital for the nuclear science and engineering profession. Further, the program works to sustain a long-term commitment to basic research in this field and coordinates research efforts across the federal government.

Partnerships for International Research and Education
Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) is an NSF-wide program that supports international activities across all NSF-supported disciplines. The primary goal of PIRE is to support high quality projects in which advances in research and education could not occur without international collaboration. PIRE seeks to catalyze a higher level of international engagement in the U.S. science and engineering community. International partnerships are essential to addressing critical science and engineering problems. This PIRE competition will be open to all areas of science and engineering research which are supported by the NSF.

Safeguarding Children of Incarcerated Parents: Developing and Implementing Family Strengthening Policies at Correctional Institutions at the Local and State level
The goal of this cooperative agreement is for the awardee to develop training materials and implement evidence-informed, model policies that can be adopted by local jails and state prisons to reduce the traumatic impact of parental incarceration on children and improve reentry outcomes for parents. This project will be modeled on the highly successful “Safeguarding Children of Arrested Parents” project that developed a model protocol for police, developed through a collaborative process, to reduce the traumatic impact of parental arrest on children.
