Calendar of Events – 2017

Below is a list of events that we are running throughout 2017. For certain events, exact dates are still to be confirmed. You can still register your interest for these by using Section 6 of the registration form.

August: Independent Living, 3 Day Residential

This three-day residential stay in Dundee is for blind and partially-sighted young people aged 18 to 25. The focus for this event is to teach young people independent living skills and provide them with the information they need to successfully live independently. The venue will be self-catering accommodation in Dundee city centre, with RNIB Scotland staff facilitating, supervising and supporting the young people throughout.

August/September (TBC): 1 Day Event for Parents & Young People

This one day event will provide an opportunity for young people and parents from the North East to come together and learn more about preparing for the future and transitions. The programme and event location (Aberdeen) will be confirmed closer to the time, but the day will have speakers providing invaluable information and advice, workshops and activities. Both young people and parents will also have an opportunity to meet, share experiences and network with others.

Wed 13th September: Family Day at Royal Blind

This one-day event, organised in partnership with Royal Blind, will be held at the Royal Blind School in Edinburgh. This is for parents who have a child (aged 15 to 25) with sight-loss and additional complex needs. A programme for parents and young people will run in parallel, so while parents can receive information on things such as advocacy, guardianship, welfare and self-directed support, young people will be taking part in activities under the supervision of Royal Blind staff.

October Break: 2 Day Enterprise Activities

This event will be held over two days at RNIB Scotland’s Employment and Learning Centre in Brunstane, Edinburgh. This will be held during the October school holidays, however please note that it is not a residential. This event is perfect for blind and partially-sighted young people, aged 15 to 25, who like to be creative and have an interest in learning how to become entrepreneurs. Young people will be given the opportunity to plan and develop a business idea; working in teams and learning what it takes to progress their ideas.

October (subject to change): 1 Day Event for Parents & Young People

This particular information event follows on from our well-received parents & young people day at Stirling University in October 2016. A programme, venue and date will be confirmed closer to the time, however once more, there will be guest speakers, a wealth of information on transitions (looking at different areas from the previous year) andwill provide an excellent networking opportunity for parents.
