Psalm 104

Reading from Psalm 104

Leader: Bless the Lord, O my soul!

People: O Lord, my God, you are great! You are clothed with honor and majesty, wrapped in light as with a garment. You stretch out the heavens like a tent, you set the beams of your chambers on the waters, you make the clouds your chariot, you ride on the wings of the wind, you make the winds your messenger, fire and flame are your ministers. You set the earth on its foundations, so that it shall never be shaken. O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Your creatures praise you, O God!

Follow Immediately by the Singing of all stanzas of “All Creatures of Our God and

King” into the refrain of “How Great Thou Art”

Psalm 104:24-34

Leader: O Lord, how manifold are your works! They are too many to count.

People: O Lord, your works are layer upon layer! Who could count them all?

Leader: In wisdom, you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

People: All creatures great and small are of your making.

Leader: They look to you to give them their food at just the right time; when you provide, they gather it up.

People: When you open your hand to them, they are filled with good things.

Leader: But when you hide your face from them, they are dismayed.

People: When you take their breath away, they die and return to dust.

Leader: When you send forth your Spirit, they are given life, and you renew their surroundings.

People: May the glory of the Lord endure forever! May the Lord rejoice in the works of his hands.

Leader: Our God looks at the earth, and it trembles; he touches the mountains, and smoke pours forth.

People: I will sing praise to the Lord as long as I live.

Leader: I will sing praise to my God while I have being.

People: May all my meditations be pleasing to God, for I rejoice in him.

Reading from Psalm 104

[can be read responsively or assigned to multiple readers]

Praise the LORD, O my soul.
O LORD my God, you are very great.
You are clothed with splendor and majesty.

You wrap yourself in light as with a garment.
You stretch out the heavens like a tent.

You lay the beams of your upper chambers on their waters.
You make the clouds your chariot.
You ride on the wings of the wind.

You make the winds your messengers.
You make flames of fire your servants.

You set the earth on its foundations, and it can never be moved.

You covered it with the deep as with a garment.
The waters stood above the mountains, but at your rebuke the waters fled,
At the sound of your thunder they took to flight.

The waters flowed down the mountains.
They went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them.

You set a boundary they cannot cross.
Never again will they cover the earth.

How many are your works, O LORD!
In wisdom you made them all.
The earth is full of your creatures.

Praise the LORD, O my soul.
Praise the LORD.
