Occupational Summary

The Duke Antimicrobial Stewardship Outreach Network (DASON) is seeking talented stewardship pharmacists to join our team in North Carolina as a pharmacy liaison. In this role, the pharmacist will be dedicated to enhancing the quality of medication use through antimicrobial stewardship. This individual will work collaboratively with clinical pharmacists, medical staff, and other healthcare workers at participating Antibiotic Stewardship Community Network hospitals under the direction of the Director of the Duke Antimicrobial Stewardship Outreach Network (DASON).

Work Performed

Perform prospective and retrospective antimicrobial review, feedback, and (when indicated) intervention at participating Antibiotic Stewardship Community Network hospitals to identify trends and improvement opportunities

Participate in the development and communication of infectious diseases-related protocols and order sets to improve antibiotic decision-support for Antibiotic Stewardship Community Network clinicians relating to the selection, dose, duration, and monitoring of antimicrobials

Represent DASON to front-line prescribers and administrative leaders at participating hospitals; actively contribute, and provide leadership in related committees, groups or initiatives relating to antimicrobial stewardship

Participate in the preparation of reports intended to document the impact of the program on quality, safety, and cost of antimicrobial use

Assist in organizing, managing, and querying the DASON antimicrobial utilization database

Develop processes for the review and approval of requests for restricted antibiotic use

Participate in the conduct of didactic and experiential training of present and future physicians and pharmacists in principles of antimicrobial stewardship

Provide educational lectures regarding the optimal use of antimicrobials to member hospitals

Participate in research related to the development and application of antimicrobial stewardship principles

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training: / Doctor of Pharmacy Degree
North Carolina Pharmacist License required
Experience: / Three years of clinical hospital experience and/or completion of a PGY1 residency and PGY2 residency in infectious disease are desired. In lieu of a PGY2 residency in infectious diseases, completion of an Antimicrobial Stewardship Certification Program is also desirable.
Candidates with experience as a member of Antimicrobial Stewardship Service are preferred.
