“Monarchs”

In this paper I will tell you about two past monarchs and one fictional monarch. What is a monarch supposed to be? A monarch is a hereditary sovereign, as a king, queen, or emperor. Another meaning of the word monarch is sole and absolute ruler of a state or nation. In this paper I will tell you a little bit about three monarchs. The two real monarchs are Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth I, and the fictional monarch I will tell you about is Macbeth. The two real monarchs, I say they were fit to rule as well as their achievements like not losing their kingdom while they were ruling. I will first tell you about Queen Victoria.

Queen Victoria was born May 24,1819. Before she was crowned she was taught to be proper and how to become a proper queen. After her training she was crowned in 1837, she was 18 years old. She was a single queen until she was 20 years old. At the young age of 20 she found her husband his name was prince Albert. Prince Albert was not only a loving husband but one of her teachers. Prince Albert and her first prime minister Lord Melbourne taught her about constitutional monarchy. Constitutional Monarchy is a form of government in which a king or queen acts as Head of State. The ability to make and pass legislation resides with an elected Parliament, not with the Monarch. Teaching her about constitutional monarchy gave queen Victoria an advantage. I say it gave her an advantage by teaching her how to have a backbone, she wouldn’t get ran over by all of the men in parliament. By giving her that backbone she didn’t get ran over because she was a woman it gave her a chance to defend herself and it gave parliament a different perspective on how the government should be run.

During her time as queen Victoria had six children. All of her children, all six married into other royal families. In 1861, Victoria started wearing black for the rest of her time as queen because she lost her loving husband and her principle adviser for state affairs . She wore the black to express her depression. Before she died she got over he depression, by forming a strong friendship with her last prime minister Marquess Of Salisbury. She was a very respectful queen because she “favored measures to improve the lot of the poor” and “she also supported charities involved in education, hospitals, and other areas. “ After her husband died she continued ruling the kingdom until she died she died January 22,1901, she died when she was 82 years old. She was queen for 64 years. Queen Victoria was fit to rule in my opinion because even though she was depressed due to her husband’s death she managed to keep running the kingdom. The kingdom never got out of hand and she also improved the kingdom while she was in a depression. She improved the kingdom by supporting charities and hospitals, places to help improve the standards of the kingdom community. Queen Victoria was a wonderful queen because during her time as the ruler she helped the community and she kept the kingdom in order during a period of time where she needed to grieve, but she kept pushing forward in the kingdoms improvements.

Queen Elizabeth I was born September 7,1533. She was born into a royal family, so when she was younger she went to school to become a proper queen and her older sister Mary. Elizabeth didn’t get the chance to be queen until she was fifty-five years old. She was given the crown in November 1558. She was crowned because her sister Mary married. Elizabeth was called the “Virgin Queen” due to the fact that she decided to never marry. She decided not to marry because if she did she would have to give up the crown to give it to her husband and she didn’t want to do that she wanted to remain in control of her country. In this case I would say instead of marrying one person to love until she died she decided to not marry which gave her the opportunity to marry the country of loving citizens. In my opinion marrying one country that you rule is great instead of just being loved by the same man all the time, but then again having only one mans love until you die has it appeal but for this purpose we will say she made the better choice by marrying her country in other words (Troubled).

When Elizabeth first started out was fit to rule because she never lost focus of her father’s dream for the country. She was also fit to rule because she didn’t just focus on her father’s dream for the country; she also was focused on helping the citizens of the country. She would listen to the citizen’s problems and try to help them. But as her time as queen expanded, so did her wallet. The more time she spent as ruler, her wallet began to diminish because she loved fine jewelry I mean who wouldn’t like some diamonds around their neck or on the hands. When her taste expanded, she ended up leading her citizens into an economic depression. “During Elizabeth's long reign, the nation also suffered from high prices and severe economic depression, especially in the countryside, during the 1590s” (Victoria (r 1837-1901)) .Elizabeth was fit to rule when she was first crowned but as she got older she wasn’t as fit to rule. She wasn’t fit to rule in the end because she lost sight of what her original plan was which was to follow in her father’s footsteps and create a kingdom just as he imagined, but as the more time she was ruler she forgot what her father’s plan was so she created her own plan for her ideal kingdom.

Macbeth was not fit to rule because he was demon possessed. The play shows us that he was demon possessed because he killed Duncan that came to visit him so Duncan wouldn’t have time to kill Macbeth and Macbeth would also expand his kingdom once Duncan was out of the way. Macbeth also killed Banquo because he thought that Banquo would come back and kill Macbeth and let his son Fleance take over Macbeths kingdom because he would of killed Macbeth. So Macbeth hired some hit men basically to go out and kill Banquo and Fleance. Banquo made sure Fleance got away safely but things didn’t end so well for Banquo. Banquo was murdered, which the thought that he killed his best friend Banquo haunted Macbeth until he was killed. With the thought of the murder on his brain, and the hallucinations of seeing Banquo with an axe in his back and a bloody face, drove Macbeth insane. So Macbeth wasn’t fit to rule in the beginning or the end. Macbeth was inane because he was paranoid, which lead him to not become a good king. Macbeth and his insanity also drove his wife insane as well and then she ended up murdering herself because she couldn’t deal with the hallucinations anymore.

So all in all two of the three monarchs we not fit to rule. They weren’t fit to rule due to the fact that they either lost sight of their original reason behind their ruling style because they wanted the riches or they went crazy because they were possessed by demons. The one monarch that was fit to rule was a wonderful person, because even though she lost her husband she still kept her eye on her original reason for ruling. She not only helped herself come out of a depression she also helped her country get back to a better place as well, that’s why I say she was fit to rule. Even though not all of the monarchs were fit to rule they all made some kind of important impact on history which made the way our monarchs will follow forever.
