  1. Introductions
  1. SMARTe Goals
  • Still in the writing process, will be set by December break
  • They are goals for the year. Data driven. Set according to highest needs of the children
  • K-5 goals. State mandated goals that came with training
  • We hired Ms. Minnock K-2 literacy coach. Help to have all students reading before entering 3rd grade
  • Last year only 23% of K came out knowing alphabet. Big push to improve that
  • We not only will be accumulating data, but analyzing it and using data towards goals
  1. SMI
  • Scholastic Math Inventory
  • New assessment on computer
  • We have had some issues with computers, but doing what we have to to fix
  • Each year grade K-4 students should grow 50 pts on SMI from beginning to end
  • We chose to give SMI 3 times per year
  • Grade 5 & 6 need to grow 35 pts on SMI from beginning until end of year
  • 7 & 8th need to grow 25 points.

  • Scholastic Reading Inventory
  • Also on computer
  • Uses lexile levels
  • Students need to grow 75-100m lexiles in one year
  1. Wilson
  • Reading Intervention for kids not on level for Reading
  • Given 90 min every other day to students who need it
  • Was Piloted at Weil last year, Ballard observed great academic gains by students in program
  • It is a “catch up” program, proven successful
  1. We received a Meaningful Intervention Grant and were able to hire another Counselor
  • Tia Altman, runs LAC room
  • Not just suspending kids put giving them helpful interventions and strategies to address issues
  • “Cool down” time if needed
  • Goal is to get kids back to class to learn
  1. Announcements
  • Suspension rate down from 97-17 at this time last year
  • Parent workshops at Carrick high school, flyer distributed
  • Next meeting December TBD, we will make it a Family Fun night with musical performance and art show
  • GPS (Great Pittsburgh Public Schools) Steering Committee coming to Arlington on November 12th to give our parents a voice in education justice and the visions of helping public education. 4:30-6 at Intermediate cafeteria
  • EFA meeting Sci-Tech, dinner served at 5:30

  • We need parents to be involved speaking up and giving a voice
  • Ask each parent bring another parent to next meeting
  • Parents brought up they are noticing a positive change from last year here at Arlington
