Synopsis

For the past twenty-eighty years I have worked in the construction industry. I started as a trainee Site agent and worked myself up into construction management. I have worked in several parts of Europe and am biilingual. I pride myself on running quality projects that are delivered on time and to budget.

Career History

2006Returned to England and worked in project management for company JJC Ltd.Projects including new build (ecological) house and extension/renovation works in domestic construction. Preparing drawings for planning and building regulation applications.

2003I ran several building projects in Brittany, France. These works included renovation and new construction in both the domestic and commercial arenas.

1999I designed and built my own house using modern high energy saving materials.

1994I registered my business in Germany (C.M.Youmans, Bauunternehmen). This company provided services in brick/block work, concrete, shuttering/formwork and steel- fixing. The company was highly successful with sites spread over north Germany. I controlled up to 30 tradesmen at any one time. The labour only turnover exceeded 2,000,000 € per annum.

1992As by this time 90% of my commissions were located in Germany I decided to close Concept Building Contractors and concentrate on German contracts. I lived and worked in Germany but as an English contractor.

1990Due to lean and less profitable contracts in England I sought contracts in Germany. I managed projects simultaneously in Germany and England.

1989I started own company called "Concept Building Contractors". The company provided a full home extension and alteration service from design to completion. This ran successfully with full order book until the onset of building recession in 1990.

1987I contracted myself to Buildrite Homes Ltd. My job was to carry out building extensions and general alteration work. This contact led to work as a Contracts Consultant and I subsequently joined the company as their Contracts Director.

1985The D.L.Scott Ltd partnership was dissolved. I continued to work in a self - employed capacity as a Contracts Consultant. My first solo project was building a factory unit for a company called Hamble Propellers. Other lucrative contracts included structural alterations and extension work to buildings throughout the London area. I was contracted to a shop-fitting company working for William Hills, Bookmakers. Due to the success of this venture I had to suspend training at Technical College.

1982I ran my first project as Contracts manager/ Site Agent. I managed the construction of a block of six studio apartments. I was given full responsibility for ordering materials and hiring of sub-contracted and employed labour. The project was a huge success. This enabled me to progress onto the management of larger and multiple projects.

1980I started full-time employment with D.L.Scott Ltd., Property Developers. My training began with a six month sponsored intensive bricklaying course run by Manpower Services Commission. I went on to study the City and Guilds course in Bricklaying at Southampton Technical College. I qualified with two distinctions and a credit. I was advised to continue my education by attending the HNC level Construction Technology course, which I subsequently did.

Whilst carrying out block release and evening classes for the above qualifications I worked on site as an assistant site manager/foreman. Duties included assisting with the acquisition of land through to the "snagging" of completed domestic dwellings.
