Course Description: The goal of the physical education and health program is to provide a number of opportunities for students to participate in a variety of activities. Through these activities, students will acquire the knowledge needed to lead a physically active and healthy lifestyle. The activities in this course will include team sports, individual sports, health, and physical fitness concepts.

Grading:
30%: tests and quizzes
30%: skills tests

10%: gotcha log and homework (GOTCHA LOGS ARE NOT ACCEPTED LATE AND MUST BE TURNED IN ON THE ACTUAL GOTCHA LOG)

Discipline:
The physical education department’s discipline rules are consistent with the overall discipline rules of Dutch Fork Middle School. Below are specific rules and procedures we expect all students to follow in physical education class.
- All students are to obey all school rules according to the Student Handbook.
- All students are to be on time and report to the physical education locker room immediately.
- All students are to be prepared for class with all necessary materials (clothes).
- All students are to obey the teachers and show respect to all teachers and students at all times.
- No drinks, food, or candy is allowed in the gym and/or locker room area.
- Students are to stop, sit, and face the teacher when a whistle is blown.
What are acceptable clothes for DFMS Physical Education?
Gym shorts that are fingertip length and elastic waistband. T-shirts must have sleeves; must be crew neck; must be long enough to tuck in.
Dress for the Weather Outdoors!
Physical Education will have some units outside if the temperature is at least 45 degrees. Students should always have clothes in their locker that are appropriate for the weather outside. When classes meet outside students may wear sweat suits and wind suits.
Shoes and Socks
Rubber soled tennis shoes (non-marking soles) are required. Sperry’s are acceptable but not recommended. Shoes must have a solid back and must be laced and tied properly. No flip flops, sandals, cleats, elevated shoes, or hiking boots are allowed.
*5 points will be taken off for the wrong footwear (and you will have to sit out)
DFMS Physical Education Dress Policy
1st offense will result in points taken off of participation and dress out grade (-5)
2nd offense will result in points taken off of participation and dress out grade (-5)
3rd offense will result in points taken off of participation and dress out grade (-10)
4th offense will result in points taken off of participation and dress out grade (-10)
5th offense will result in points taken off of participation and dress out grade (-15)
Wrong shoes- 5 points off
Wrong shirt- 2 points off
Wrong shorts/pants- 2 points off
Locker room
*Every student will be issued a lock at the beginning of the semester. Each student is responsible for keeping up with his or her lock throughout the semester. If the lock is lost during the semester, the student will be fined $5.50.
*Every student will be issued a locker at the beginning of the semester. Students are responsible for locking their belongings in their locker. Please do not share your combination! Teachers are not responsible for lost items in the locker room!
What if my child is sick or injured?Sick or injured students are required to have a note from a parent or doctor. Students will be allowed to miss one class with a parent note. If a student misses more than one class due to sickness or injury, then a doctor’s note is required.
