Outstanding Young Member of the Year Award

Criteria & Application

The purpose of the Outstanding Young Member of the Year Award is to recognize the competence and activities of younger members in the Public Health/Community Nutrition DPG and to encourage their participation in Academy affairs.

A. Eligibility Criteria for the Excellence in Public Health/Community Nutrition Award

  1. Member of PHCNPG for a minimum of 3 years consecutively immediately prior to application date.
  2. As of May 31, 2018, the nominee is 35 years or younger.
  3. Not previously selected as the PHCNPG Outstanding Member of the Year Award or Young Member of the Year Award recipient.
  4. Active participation in Public Health/Community Nutrition DPG activities such as committee service, newsletter contributions, or involvement in association activities at district, state and national levels.
  5. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
  6. Demonstrated Leadership in Public Heath/Community Nutrition, e.g. legislation, research, program development, education, management, etc., in the Academy, PHCNPG, or through employment
  7. Not a current member of the Award Selection Committee or the PNCNPG Executive Committee. Self-nominations are permitted.

B. Procedure for Selection

Upon submission of the application by May 31, 2018to Alice Lenihan, MPH, RD, LDat he PHCNPG Awards Committee will review and make selections.

C.Award

Each year, the individual selected will receive an award of $500 and an inscribed plaque, presented at the PHCNPG Business Meeting at the Academy’s Food & Nutrition Conference & ExpoTM (FNCE®). The individual will also be featured in TheDigest newsletter.

Identify how the nominee has:1) Actively participated in Public Health/Community Nutrition DPG activities such as committee service, newsletter contributions, or involvement in association activities at district, state and national levels; 2) Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population; and 3) Demonstrated Leadership in public heath/community nutrition (e.g. legislation, research, program development, education, management, etc., in the Academy, PHCNPG, or through employment).

Application Process

The nominator should complete and submit the application by e-mail all documents in one consolidated PDF documentto Alice Lenihan, MPH, RD, LDN at by May 31, 2018. The application document should contain the following:

  1. Nomination Form
  2. Narrative (not to exceed 5 pages) on how the nominee has demonstrated innovative contributions to practice and/or has provided significant leadership in policy development, and/or has provided exemplary and sustained service to public health/community nutrition.
  3. A current CV or résumé of the individual being nominated.
  4. Two letters of support (not to exceed 2 pages) addressing the individuals’ accomplishments.

Note: Please adhere to these requirements and do not send in additional information. Failure to do so may cause the Awards Committee to not accept the application.
