Wireless Laptop Lab Procedures

The following procedures will help teachers understand how to implement the wireless laptop lab into the classroom. Please take the time to read and understand the following guidelines.

General Guidelines:

  1. All teachers who plan on using the wireless lab must attend a training session on the proper use of the lab.
  2. This procedure form must be signed by the teacher to show that he/she has read the guidelines and understands the laptop procedures.
  3. A TEACHER must pick up the lab from the library or ms. Ernst’s lab room. NO student is allowed to move the lab at any time.
  4. Reserve the wireless lab following our building checkout policy.
  5. Always assign students a specific numbered laptop and record this number somewhere (grade book, sign-in sheet, etc.). Please try to assign students the same laptop each time you use them for convenience.
  6. It is recommended to use the lab in the library. However, if you choose to use the lab in your room, determine where the cart will be placed in your room:
  7. Place the cart in a location where it will not be bumped.
  8. The cart must be near a network connection.
  9. The cart must be near an electrical outlet.
  10. Laptops will always run on battery power. The power cords are NOT to be taken out of the cart.
  11. Do a visual check of each laptop before and after use of the wireless lab making note of any problems with the laptops. Report problems and error messages to Mrs. Giesler IMMEDIATELY.
  12. It is the responsibility of the teacher who last used the laptop lab to return it to the proper location and make certain that the battery charging process is started.
  13. The entire lab must be checked out at once. The lab cannot be broken up and used in different locations at one time.
  14. Laptops cannot be checked out overnight by anyone.
  15. Post the Acceptable Use Policy sheet in your classroom and review with students prior to use EVERY time you use the lab.
  16. The wireless laptop lab has 1 battery. It does not have a Floppy A: drive or a CD Rom drive. (Approximate life of a fully charged battery is 4 hours.)
