Re: Loss of External Funding

Dear Dr. NAME

The appointment to the faculty of the University of Miami is regulated by the process described in the faculty manual, and followed by the departments, schools, and university. After careful review we have determined that your external funding is not adequate to support your research. Unfortunately, this is not sustainable in the current fiscal environment.

Thus, as we discussed in our meeting on DATE and in keeping with the faculty manual requirements, I will be asking the Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and the Provost to initiate the non-reappointment process.

As required by the Faculty Manual, faculty members on the research track are eligible for 1 month of notice for every year of service. As you were appointed to the faculty on DATE, you are therefore eligible for XX months of notice time in accordance with the faculty manual. Your notice will begin once you receive a letter from the Vice Provost.

We value the contributions you have made to the mission of this institution and will work with you during the notice period to smoothly help you transition to the next phase of your career.

If during the notice period, you have other grant applications and promises of support that may alleviate this funding lapse, we will consider whether to rescind the non-reappointment process.

Sincerely yours,

CHAIR
